Description!!!The!Worship!Internship!is!a!capstone!course!for!those!students!majoring!in!Worship!and!Music!Studies!at!Liberty!University.!It!includes!a!minimum!of!400!hours!supervised!ministry!experience!in!an!approved!worship!ministry!of!a!local!church!or!parachurch!organization.!The!course!is!usually!completed!the!summer!between!the!junior!and!senior!years.!Special!consideration!is!given!to!course!completion!during!the!last!semester!of!a!student’s!senior!year.!!

Rationale!!!It!has!become!increasingly!more!important!for!students!to!have!opportunity!to!apply!learned!principles!of!worship!leading!under!the!direction!of!teachers,!mentors,!music!directors,!and/or!pastors.!This!experience!should!be!gleaned!over!an!extended!period!of!time!in!the!local!church!under!the!supervision!of!local!church!leadership.!!!Experiences!should!be!designed!so!that!the!student!understands!the!responsibility!of!submitting!his/her!self!to!pastoral!authority.!Experiences!should!include,!but!are!not!limited!to!crafting!worship!services!for!small!groups;!rehearsing!choirs,!ensembles,!praise!teams,!or!praise!bands!as!needed;!singing!with!praise!teams!and/or!playing!with!praise!bands;!developing!multiImedia!powerIpoint!type!presentations;!participating!in!drama!teams;!assembling!a!team!of!worship!leaders!and!teachers!for!specific!missions!related!activities;!or!assisting!media!teams!in!the!preparation!and!presentation!of!worship!through!video,!computer,!and!audio!venues.!!Upon(completion(of(this(course,(the(student(will(be(able(to:(

Internship(Requirements(and(Assignments:(

There!are!several!specific!requirements!of!the!intern!and!mentor!before,!during!and!after!their!internship!process.!!These!requirements!and!assignments!are!laid!out!here!chronologically!in!order!to!clearly!specify!a!timeline!for!both!the!intern!and!the!mentor.!!Though!some!assignments!require!mentor!participation,!the!intern!will!be!responsible!for!completing!and!turning!in!all!internship!assignments.!!More!detailed!descriptions!of!several!of!the!major!assignments!are!included!in!the!back!of!this!handbook.!!Pre(Internship(

1. Interview(and(Resume(SubmissionI!Any!student!desiring!to!participate!in!the!internship!process!must!complete!an!inIhouse!interview!with!the!internship!staff!and!faculty!at!the!Center!for!Worship!and!turn!in!an!updated!resume.!!This!interview!provides!the!student!with!valuable!interview!experience,!but!also!aids!in!the!identification!of!gifts!and!skills!in!order!to!best!place!the!student!for!the!internship.!!

2. Interview(with(Church/MinistryI!After!placement,!the!intern!is!to!meet!with!the!supervising!mentor!in!person!or!via!telephone!prior!to!beginning!the!internship.!This!meeting!is!for!the!purpose!of!finalizing!a!plan!of!operation!and!defining!a!job!description!practical!to!the!needs!of!the!church.(

(3. Church(and(Student(AgreementsI!Once!the!internship!placement!is!finalized,!the!

supervising!mentor!must!complete!the!“Internship!Church!Agreement”!form,!as!well!as!a!detailed!Job!Description!for!the!intern.!!Likewise,!the!intern!must!also!complete!the!“Internship!Student!Agreement”!form.!!(See!Forms!I!and!II)(

(4. Pre(AssessmentI!Prior!to!serving!as!an!intern,!the!intern!should!complete!a!preI
