Final International University
English Language Teaching Program
Code of Conduct for Student Teachers
Introduction
As future teachers, you will be role models to future generations of students. A vital part of
your training at FIU therefore involves the development of high standard academic and
professional values that you will be able to pass on to your own students.
This booklet describes what some of these values are, and how to put them into practice
during our time at FIU.
The issues discussed mostly relate to Learning Outcome 8, in our University framework:
Final International University Learning Outcome 8:
Shown responsibility and commitment to academic and professional ethics, and to civic
and social responsibilities, including environmental protection, health, safety and security
issues, and justice.
ELT Program Learning Outcome 8:
Demonstrated a professional outlook in terms of educational practice, including the
willingness to develop teaching and learning approaches that are socially and culturally
informed.
The booklet provides a code of academic and professional conduct for all ELT student-
teachers. Your commitment to its principles is required and is evaluated through our
continuous assessment system as part of class participation and school and classroom visits.
Please read the booklet carefully and make every effort to put the framework into practice
and show that you are developing the professional attitudes and skills required for a twenty-
first century language teacher to maximize the potential of the next generations of twenty-
first century learners.

Code of Conduct during the COVID-19 pandemic – Online Classroom Participation
Set up your own study space well in advance of an online session or lecture. Make
sure you are able to work quietly, in an environment where you can focus without
being disturbed by family members or housemates.
Use professional language when speaking during online teaching sessions, and
conduct yourself in a respectable manner, in line with face-to-face teaching – towards
your peers and your teacher.
Check your e-mail and other communication channels provided by your teacher to
stay up-to-date with any changes or new information shared with you by your teacher
or Final International University.
Inform your lecturers or advisors if you do not have access to a stable internet
connection, and/or a desktop/laptop/mobile device on which you can attend sessions
and hand in assignment
Turn off your microphone unless you are speaking.

D. The Classroom Environment
We save energy (Lights and ACs are turned off when not required)
We keep the board clean.
We respect furniture.
Litter goes into the rubbish bins and the classroom is left clean when we leave it, with
chairs left in standard position.
(We respect the next teacher and the next class of students…)
