Question 2 is answered by text and by audio

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product reflects the rap genre in many ways, as well as challenges it and developing it. At the start of the scene the artist is sitting on a hill where he is just thinking away into the horizon. This goes against rap as rap artist do not ponder into their own world and normally are upfront and aggressive. It is normally in indie rock where artists ponder into their own world and have seconds to think about the world.

Another way where the artist challenges the real media product is the hair style of the artist. Rap artist either have short hair or they are bold, where as this artist has a lot of hair, this goes against the style of the dress code for rap artist.

Through out the music video there is an actor where he is sitting on the sofa in the house and he is also recording the music in the studio. His style, like his dress code and his hair style also goes against the code of rap genre.

As many rap videos, the artists always have other people inside their video which makes them look like they have a gang or makes them look like they are respected. In the same way the artist have three people walking with him showing that he is with a group proving his rank in the rap industry. Many artists intend to use dark atmosphere for their music video as it brings out the power of the artist and it also shows the power of the artist to the audience, just like other artist, in this video Ikky is also displayed in the dark room which shows power and mystery. This can give the audience a think about what type of character this artist is.

Unlike many other genres, rap has the tradition to double the voice at the end of the beat of the music. This is done in this music video as the voice doubles at heavy beats of the music video. This is a sign of rap as the artist has intended to do this to keep up the tradition of rap.

Apart from that, the rest of the video actually goes with the genre of rap. As the artist wears hooded top, t shirt and leather jacket through out most of the video which is common as the dress code in the rap industry. Just the way the artist looks will hint out to the audience that his songs are based around rap.

Page 5: Final Evaluation

Another part of the video where the artist reflects the genre of rap is when the artist does various hand gestures where it will give the audience that idea that it is based around rap. As rock or jazz artist will never perform hand gestures as rappers. Another important reflection of rap is the body movement as the artist Ikky is recording his music in the studio and he is jumping his body. The digipak reflects the real media products in different ways. Many media products such as the digipak normally have a front and back cover related. The CD itself normally copies the front cover and the inner panels display images of the artists or it’s covered with graphic designs. Just like many CD albums, I have created it in similar way, where the back and front image relate, the CD itself is the copy of the front cover and the other panels are images of the artist performing. The colours which are being used are red and black, these colours shows and represent power and energy where it can push the audience to have a look at the album on the shelf or stores.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

It is important to have your video and ancillary text connected as it will give the audience an image of the coming album. However it all depends on the main music track that will support the music album. The digipak which I created does not really relate to the music video as the album is not titled after the music video ‘Gaza Part 2’.

Although the video does not match the music album, the colour is represented in both, video and album. The artist Ikky is wearing red clothing in some of the scenes; this can show the audience that there are relations between the album and the artist, and it can leave the audience believing that the video suits the artist.

A part from these there is nothing else which relate to the album also the design of the magazine advert does not relate to the album in anyway besides the image of the artist. The reason why the colours are all mixed up, it is trying to attract other people who may enjoy the album, although the album contains rap it also contains other type of genre like hip-hop and light amount of rock.

Another way to represent that there is a link between the video and the text is having the artist on the album, I have used the artist in the inner panels of the album, where the buyer will see the image of the artist, this shows the buyer that this is real and official from the artist.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Feedback helps me to understand mistakes that I have made in my videos. There will be many compliments and critics, but they will all help me to make my video better.

As we see there are compliments from many viewers and there are viewers who dislike the video. What I have seen is that the dislike viewers will not be honest with their answers and will always hate something automatically because they didn’t like it in the first place, so their feedback cannot be fully trusted

Many viewers have given me compliments and have left comments for improvements, one of them has said ‘looks kl, but shaking can stop’ this tells me that although the viewer liked the video they have said that the shaking can stop, so I know that when I’m editing the video I need to cut down on the shaking of the camera as an improvement.

Page 9: Final Evaluation

Another viewer has said ‘cam needs to be fixed up’ the camera quality wasn’t liked by the viewer which is understandable as the camera was given by the college and it wasn’t in the top range of camera. For my improvement I can use a better quality camera which may boost up my rates and viewers. There is a viewer who loved the dark atmosphere which I reckon he was referring to the dark room. This is something to take in because I was having doubt of keeping this scene in the video. Now I have full confidence of keeping this scene, thanks to the viewers. The latest viewer has said that they find the video good but believe that the gang walk is a cheesy scene. This will be taken into consideration so for next time I will know not to add a gang scene into the video.Other viewers have commented about the like and dislike of the videos which has set some viewers to argue with each other, however all comments will be reflected on the video and it will help me to make those dislike viewers to people who like my video.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

It is important to use media technologies to gain success in the media industry. It is actually impossible to be at the top with the help of media technologies, these can include anything from Photoshop, final cut express, YouTube and even Facebook these days. Any sort of a media product can resolve to an achievement if used correctly and can give the upper edge in the market.

Blogger has been very helpful since the beginning of this course as it is the centre of my work. Blogger allows me to upload my work so it can be viewed by the teachers so I can be given feedback on my work, which will allow me to improve my work. As the phrase goes ‘two heads are better then one’ by uploading the work multiple people can view my work and make comments about it, this includes friends, family and other students.

Blogger as also allowed me to view other people work for help and guidance, for example if I do not know how to create a digipak, I can easily see someone else’s blog and see how to create one.

Imovie has helped me to create my draft of my video, the features of this are very easy to use and it can be done instantly.

The screen shots below helped me to create my video, they all played an important part when producing it.

This allowed me to add the music track over my video, which helped me to see how the audio mimics the music track.

Here I can choose what project I would like to open up. Allowing me to open up previous projects or create a new one.

This is the part where it shows all the videos I have in the library. I can actually drag and drop the video parts I want, it is very easy and simple. This has allowed me to create quick videos unlike other software.

Page 12: Final Evaluation

This part is where the video can be viewed by pressing spacebar. This helps me to view the video and see what I have achieved so far and in what areas I have failed.

This is the recent library, which shows me what project I was on last, this helped me to keep in touch with my latest project without searching for it through out directories.

This is the actual project, what I have created, it can be played by the spacebar and the time the time is shown at the top right hand corner and the video will go all along till the end without any problems.

In conclusion it is the easiest video editor I have used. Although it seems perfect it can do with improvements, like extra features on the editing and it should auto sink with the music when added to the project.

Page 13: Final Evaluation

This is the video player screen, where the user can view his video process and what has been done do far. This screen is the editing screen where the user can see what parts of the video they want and can use in the video.

Here is where the video gets dragged into if the viewer wants it (blue line). The video can be played from here and it will come on the video player screen. The music track can also be added here which is represented as the green line. More tracks added in each line means they will overlap each other. So a user can add an instrumental in one line and the lyrics in the other, combining them together to make a music track and with the video it can become a music video.

I movie is great way to create a video. It seems to be more advanced then Imovie. This is created by Apple and it is designed for high definition editing.

Page 14: Final Evaluation

I have used Photoshop for my digipak as it helped me to create my own image by using the Photoshop tools. It is the advance version of editing and I believe it has helped me to achieve my goals. Photoshop played an important part in the creating of the digipak as I wouldn’t have done it as good without it.

YouTube has allowed me to upload my video and viewers would give me feedback on what they thought about the video. This is a brilliant way of seeking improvements as anonymous people will give a more efficient answer then a family or friend which they can be bias. YouTube has also helped me to upload my work to the blog as the video on the blog is powered by YouTube.
