FINAL EVALUATION
Question 4.
How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
There was a variety of software and equipment which I used throughout the creation of our
horror trailer as well as my magazine cover and film poster. The montage of images below
shows the logos of software’s we used throughout and pictures of equipment we also used.
Web 2.0 technologies have a various number of advantages especially to low budget/no
budget film makers. Web 2.0 overall is the meaning of individuals creating the web instead
of the web being created for them. I like to say that it isn’t created for you it is created by
you. In many ways it is created by everyone for everyone and individuals share content
which others can see, create content which others can see and share virally. Today there are
various technologies in web 2.0 which are available such as: Youtube, Blogger and many
more which are cheap or free. There is also cheap equipment available to buy like video
cameras, tripods etc which allow people to make their own film. They can then create their
piece in software’s which are quick and easy to use today such as premier pro. This is the
point where they can then distribute this on websites such as Youtube and Blogger,
promoting their creations to others. So today with all of the quick and easy and cheap
equipment and software available it allows low budget filmmakers to create and distribute a
film on a very small or no budget.
Using the technologies to create our horror trailer and media products (magazine cover &
poster) was very straight forward and simple. Due to the fact that there are so many media
products available today to people at good prices and that technology is so highly
developed, I have gained good experience in working with these overall so when coming to
use the technologies for the creation of our products it was fairly straight forward and
simple for myself. Of course there were some people in the group who were much more
confident than others in using software’s but in many ways this was helpful as they could
help others who were not as confident. Also today lots of people post video tutorials on
websites like YouTube to provide people like ourselves with help in using particular
software’s. This was also helpful when we identified a problem with something throughout
creation. Of course when I was creating I came across some difficulties and confusion in the
software’s- especially premier pro as I hadn’t worked with this before. I overcame these
however by seeking advice from group members who were more confident or looking at
tutorial videos online.
As explained I have good general knowledge in working with media overall so when coming
to create my products it was reasonably straight forward. I had large experience in working
with software’s like photoshop but when coming to working with premier pro this was
slightly different. Working with Photoshop developed my knowledge further in the software
as when working with it I continuously pick up new skills and learn new things. With premier
pro I had no experience at all so working with this was fresh for me. Everything I learnt was
new. Every lesson I worked with the software creating our trailer my knowledge developed
more and more and I continuously picked up new skills and ideas. This was all experience
and provided me with skills to use in the software for the future if using Premier Pro again.
