GOAL FOR THIS SIGN: My goal is to show students how collegiate libraries are improving their academic experience by designing unique and flexible areas within their brick and mortar structures called “Learning Commons,” which support the ways in which they learn and study in the 21 st century. AUDIENCE FOR THIS SIGN: Students enrolled in colleges and universities who were likely born from 1981-1997, and are referred to as the Millennial generation. MESSAGE FOR THIS SIGN: I would like this sign to communicate to the college’s student body that whatever their study habits are, the Library Learning Commons can provide them with a study environment that they feel comfortable in. With my next design, I changed the color scheme and attempted to bring the millennial back to their younger years as a student.

In the next design, I went to a portrait layout and changed pictures, and included another as well. I also added a graphic to the title area and modified the title’s question.

DESIGN #3

In the next design I tried something very different. I chose cartoon caricatures of millennials and added some interesting fun facts about why they come to a college library.

DESIGN #5

The next design went back to the millennial student’s past again, but with a very bold look and style. I used very few colors to create a lot of contrast, as well.

DESIGN #6

This next design also uses a large image and was created to be fun and playful, yet it also captures the challenges of studying as a college student.

For my final design, I modified Slide #6 by using a monochromatic scheme with shades and tints in the brown hue, which gives a much more natural and comfortable feeling to the sign. I also changed one of the images and aligned text differently on the sides of each image.

Next, I went very bold with the typography in the title, and combined contrasting type structures, which compliment each other.
