What Is a Teamwork?

• Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results ~Andrew Carnegie

•Well I started cheering at 5, so I have dealt with many leaders. My mother being the one I admire the most. Just being with her, and going to all of her meetings I got to experience ‘adult’ conversation, and subconsciously picked up on all cheer/gymnastics conversations.

How many levels of team leaders did you

interact with?

•You see that often, like any sport people want to ‘PROVE’ themselves. When people overreact I sometimes ignore them. People have talents, that is why they are on my team. We need to act as one, I tell my team “we influence each other!”

What happens when two priorities

compete for your time?

•Outside of practice and competition, my team is very busy with their lives. Example, one of the girls is actually a pre-med student and volunteers a lot of her time to Roswell. If I needed something she never has her phone on, or doesn’t get back to me when something comes up. This commitment is much like a full time job. Otherwise, we are all really good friends and keep in contact quite often.

What is the toughest communication

problem you have face?

• I am pretty good when it comes to communication, but I know sometimes when I say something people don’t understand the way I meant it to sound. So sometimes, things get confused. I try to think a bit harder, and make sure all points are covered before I ask ANYTHING!

What do you see as some of your most

pressing developmental

needs? •"Well I've been pretty fortunate as far as team leaders go, my first year of college I worked with a team leader who was pretty inaccessible. If you walked into her office to ask a question, you got the sense that you were bothering her, so we just learned to get help from each other instead. I wouldn't say she was my least-favorite leader, because she was a great leader in a lot of ways, but I would have preferred that she'd made herself more available to us and given us more direction."

Describe the toughest manager you've ever

had?

When groups work together, conflict

often erupts.  Tell me about a

time that conflict occurred In one of your work groups and what you did

about it.

A good way to approach conflict is to try to

understand why and how it happens.  There are tons of theories in

psychology but a framework I like is

based on something called Transactional

Analysis or TA.  

One of the toughest jobs cheerleading coaches

have is managing conflict that might erupt

on a cheerleading squad.  It’s bound to

happen sooner or later and I’m sure most cheer coaches have created

methods that work well for them. 

Every interaction we have, whether with

someone else or with ourselves, involves

these parts.  The neat thing is that you can quickly learn how to

figure out any transaction and

determine what you need to do to fix it.

Tell me about problems you had and how you handled them.

We all have problems, but sometimes we forget to leave them at the door

My team is very competitive, so conflict erupts there.

I make sure to nip it in the bud, and I usually handle that in an uncomfortable

face to face meeting

What is essential for a team to be successful?Respect Participation Trust

Ownership for reponisbilities - this one is number one for me, wheather it

is here on the team or in real life

How would your teammates with describe you? Over analyzer Perfectionist Well rounded Know-it- all on some days

Tell me what role you are with the team and why.Well, obviously I am the Team Leader.

I took me years to be in this position, but I often turn to my mother who has over 35

years in this industry.

Like anybody who has worked their whole lives to one passion, I proved my leadership skills when I

was a freshmen in high school and in my sophomore year I got voted Captain.

Motivation Techniques

• Ultimately, it’s a case of getting to understand the needs of your team and what motivates them both individually and collectively if you want to increase team motivation and have your team thrive and prosper. Motivation Myths
