Weekly learning tasks have been created as a result of the ongoing risk of schools shutting due to the Coronavirus outbreak across the UK. Based on this very real and increasing threat, class teachers have therefore written a set of weekly learning tasks which can be completed by your child whilst schools are closed for a set duration. In creating the weekly learning tasks we fully acknowledge that they cannot replace the quality of learning your child receives at school however, our complete focus has been on creating a set of tasks that all children can access to maximise their learning whilst at home. What are the aims of the Weekly Learning Tasks? To create age specific learning opportunities for primary school children. To create a resource for parents that is easy to access and use - the focus is on parents being able to help deliver the content or children accessing it independently. Key learning is linked to the National Curriculum. To enable children to continue with their learning at home during an enforced shutdown. To provide structure and focus to each day when an enforced shutdown occurs. To centralise online learning resources and links into an easy to manage format for families. How do I use the Learning Tasks? As a parent your first step read the ideas outlined in this document. There is no set time that you should spend on each time but a suggested timetable has been created to help. However it is very much your parental choice how you structure your day and you may wish for your child to spend less or more time on activities.

What happens if my child finds the learning too difficult? Our first piece of advice to parents is that ALL children find elements of learning challenging at times so try not to worry if your child becomes stuck and you cannot explain it to them. If this happens then make a note of what they found hard and move onto another learning activity - the school will try their best to cover any misconceptions when we return.
MathsWe have now made the decision to use the White-Rose Maths resources. This change has been made to give
children further learning support. Instructions:
Access the website appropriate for your year group. Select Week 2 of Home Learning.Watch the video which teaches you the methods, then download the worksheet.(Next week these videos will be available on BBC bitesize or on the Red Button of your TV)Although you can, you DO NOT need to print the worksheet. ‘The Mirror in the Attic’ – Look at the task sheet attached below. Complete a couple of sections each day, and then write a 500 word narrative about what Anna finds on the other side of the mirror. What is the world like there? Is it a good or a bad world? Can she get back? Does she want to stay? Please email final story to Class 4 email address.
Discussion – ‘Everyone should be paid the same amount of money for the job that they do’.Do you agree/disagree? Write a discussion about this statement. Your discussion should include:
- An introduction - 2 points ‘for’ (2 paragraphs)- 2 points ‘against’ (2 paragraphs)- Persuasive writing features – statistics, technical language, formal language,

Bug Club – Spend 20 minutes reading a book on bug club and answering the questions in full sentences.
Education City – Log in and use the search bar to find the games ’Apollo’s Gallop’ and ‘Chasing Tales’ and play them until you get at least 80%.
Topic – Read the Tenochtitlan Glossary. Using what you learn, label the diagram with the correct labels to help describe the Aztec city (both resources attached below).Extension: Conduct research about the city of Tenochtitlan and create a fact file on what you find.

Activity 1: Question Time – Write a response to these questions (Thinking about their writing)- Where do you think the mirror has come from?- Who does it belong to?- Why has Anna not noticed it before?- What will happen now that Anna has touched
the mirror?- What are attics used for?- Do you have an attic? Is there anything
interesting up there? (Use your imagination!)
Activity 2: Sentence challenge! (Challenging their writing)Make a list of high level adjectives to describe the mirror. Then, choose two of your adjectives and write a sentence about what Anna is doing.E.g. Anna touched the ____,____ mirror with her finger.Once you’ve done that, think of other ways to improve your sentence. Maybe an adverb to describe how Anna touched the mirror, a piece of parenthesis to drop in an extra piece of information, or a semi-colon and another main clause after it.Write your sentence with your added improvements.

Story Starter (to provide ideas if needed)She had found it lying alone. Deserted. Abandoned in the attic. After making the discovery, Anna had gazed and marvelled at it for some time. Where had it come from? Why had no dust settled upon it, as it had done over everything else that resided in her parent’s attic? A layer of the thick dust blanketed the attic floor, and as the sunlight glared through the attic windows, the dust particles yet to settle were illuminated as they hovered in the stuffy air. Yet, the mirror looked flawless, untouched by age, not a finger print in sight.
