• Metaphor: a direct comparison• Example: the raven is an alarm that crows to mark our death.

stretched his wings to hug the night air.

• Hyperbole: an exaggeration • Example: I told you a million times.

• Onomatopoeia: words that sound like sounds. • Example: bloop, splash, spray, squirt, drip, drizzle

• Alliteration: repetition of the first consonant sound.• Example: The raven rummaged through the red cupboard.
