DEDICATION

Founders Recognition 50th Annual Meet

In recognition of the founders of this meet, it is fitting the 50th annual meet be dedicated in their names.

In the late 1950's Monte Charles, AD & football coach at Southfield High School, realized that the opportunity for track athletes to participate in large invitational track meets was limited. He discussed this with ADs and track coaches in the area and they enthusiastically endorsed the idea of a county-wide championship-type meet. In 1960, he provided the leadership in planning and secured sponsorship to stage the 1 st Annual All Oakland County Track & Field Meet at the Southfield High School stadium. County track coaches Kermit Ambrose from Birmingham Seaholm, Dean Wilson from Pontiac Central, Bud Carl from Ferndale, and Jack Boughton from Hazel Park must also be credited for making this meet a reality.

Welcome to Farmington High School

Welcome to Farmington High School for today's Oakland County Track and Field Championships. Farmington High is extremely proud of its athletic facilities and is honored to have the opportunity to host the 50 th annual meet.

From past history we know that some of the top track and field athletes in the state will complete in today's challenge. We would like to recognize their self-discipline, hard work, pursuit of excellence, and good sportsmanship. Track and Field athletes perform with pride. They try new things. They persist in the face of doubt and defeat. They practice, they discipline themselves, they set goals and strive to achieve them, and because of this they are all champions, whether they come in first, second or even last.

We hope you enjoy today's program of events. We ask that you honor the hard work of the many coaches and athletes here today by exhibiting good sportsmanlike conduct yourselves.

Beginning in 1989, the games committee of the All Oakland County Track & Field Meet established a method to recognize individuals who have been significant personalities within Oakland County track & field. For any given year, individuals to be honored will have an event dedicated in their name as a constant reminder of their representation of Oakland County's track & field athletes.
