OUR WORK IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create international opportunities for people from the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide. We work in more than 100 countries and our 7,000 staff including 2,000 teachers work with thousands of professionals and policymakers and millions of young people every year by teaching English, sharing the arts and delivering education and society programmes. In India, we have a network of nine offices.
Our work in improving the quality of English language teaching and learning, particularly in public education systems, is central to our mission in supporting cultural relations between India and the UK.
Since November 2007 our effort to provide access to quality English language teaching and learning has impacted over 27 million learners, provided quality learning and professional development opportunities to over 836,190 Teachers and 8,071 Master Trainers in 12 states – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Nagaland – and engaged with over 500 policymakers in the education and employment sectors.

In 2011, in partnership with the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad the British Council initiated the English Language Teacher Educators’ Conference series which has now rapidly grown to become the world’s largest conference focusing on the needs of English language teacher educators.
Right from the start, the Teacher Educator Conference series stood out because of the high quality of the academic sessions, put together by an independent committee that took into consideration a range of factors such as global and local relevance, balancing input-based plenaries with more workshop-based approaches that stimulated experiential learning.
Over 500 national and international speakers
Over 30 countries globally participating year on year

TEACHER EDUCATOR CONFERENCE 2015
2015 marks the fifth anniversary of the annual International English Language Teacher Educator Conference. Our previous conference themes have covered a wide range of areas including Stimulating and Sustaining Teacher Education (2011), Assessment (2012), Teacher Education in Diverse Environments (2013) and Innovation (2014). The underlying theme of all these conferences has been improving learning outcomes through quality teacher education and teaching. This year, we will focus on ensuring quality in teacher education in the belief that quality in teachers’ learning leads to better learning outcomes for our learners.
The theme allows a wide-ranging exploration of teacher education in India and beyond, with a focus on quality in both pre-service education and in-service training.
The central theme of Ensuring Quality in English Language Teacher Education is articulated through three sub-themes. These are relevant to pre-service and in-service teacher education and across the primary, secondary and higher education sectors.
Our intention is that the sub-themes will be applied to examples of national, regional and local policy and practice to ensure a diversity of perspectives and input.2015 CONFERENCE THEMES

Horit Battacharya, Corporate Trainer, Deloitte - Delegate
It's my pleasure to congratulate you on the successful conduct of the Teacher Educator Conference 2014. The conference provided a vibrant platform for a large number of delegates and speakers from different parts of India and also other countries to interact with each other, share interesting stories about their professional lives and also exchange a wide variety of resources. Almost all the paper presentations, coffee shop sessions and panel discussions were rich enough to stimulate our thoughts and initiate good discussions. Plenaries could have been more insightful and thought provoking. However, the way the event was planned, organised and managed by your team was indeed exemplary. I'd like to congratulate the entire BC team for their contribution towards the success of the event
Ravinarayan Chakrakodi, Regional Institute of English South India - Delegate
It was indeed a pleasure attending the TEC 13 conference. I must say a very well organised conference given the huge number of participants. I am glad that my team and I were a part of this tremendous conference. Thank you so much.
