It is my honour to have been appointed a Patron of Birmingham St Mary's Hospice in this year when the Hospicecelebrates the 35th anniversary of its founding.

Birmingham St Mary's Hospice is an independent adult hospice providing care to people across Birmingham andSandwell caring for around 1,000 people a year.

2014 marks the 35th Anniversary of the Hospice as the first patient was admitted on March 5th 1979.

The Hospice helps and supports families and loved ones, no matter how young or old, throughout the patient’sillness and after bereavement, for as long as necessary. Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice currently needs to raise£7.4 million annually to fund its vital care.

In my role as Patron I have been asked to give particular attention to fund-raising efforts. In this, our anniversaryyear, I am so grateful that our friends and also long-term supporters of the Hospice Will Farmer and Nick Davieshave kindly offered to help us with this fundraising sale of 35 items, one for each year. I would also wish to extendmy sincere and heartfelt thanks to the many friends, some old and some new, who have kindly donated the itemsoffered here for sale. The money raised will help St Mary’s continue the invaluable work of the hospice communityin caring for those in need.
