The BA414DF Fieldbus Indicator is a newcost-effective intrinsically safe field mountinginstrument that displays a single fieldbusprocess variable in a hazardous area.Housed in a robust IP66 GRP enclosure, theinstrument has a large, high contrast five digitdisplay, plus a horizontal bargraph. TheBA414DF ind i ca to r uses the same technology and compl iments the wel l established BEKA eight variable fieldbusdisplays that are now in worldwide use.
Powered by the fieldbus the BA414DF onlyrequires a 2-wire connection to the intrinsi-cally safe fieldbus segment, no additionalpower supply is required. Compatibility withmost FOUNDATION fieldbusTM hosts is ensuredby the use of a single Input Selector functionblock, which is supported by nearly allsystems. Please contact the BEKA salesoffice for the latest compatibility information. The instrument has been registered by The Fieldbus FoundationTM and DeviceDescription Files may be downloaded fromtheir web site or from www.beka.co.uk.
The liquid crystal display has large charac-ters and is designed to provide maximumcontrast and a wide viewing angle whichenables the BA414DF indicator to be easilyread in most lighting conditions. Five digits, with four decimal points and a negative sign, may be configured to display any valuebetween –99999 and 99999. The 31 segmenthorizontal bargraph, which provides a boldanalogue indication of the fieldbus variable, may be conditioned to any starting andfinishing values within the fieldbus variable’srange.
The enclosure, which is moulded in glassreinforced polyester (GRP), has stainlesssteel fittings, silicone gaskets and anarmoured glass window. Its robust construc-tion provides IP66 protection, which has beenindependently assessed by Intertek TestingServices – report available. A separateterminal compartment allows the instrumentto be installed and terminated withoutexposing the indicator electronics. To further
simplify field wiring and subsequent inspec-tion, the terminal cable entries and clampingscrews are both forward facing. The indicatormay also be mounted onto a vertical or hori-zontal pipe using one of the accessory kits.
ATEX intrinsic safety certification allowsthe BA414DF to be installed in all gashazardous areas. The two fieldbus terminalscomply with the Fieldbus Intrinsic SafetyConcept (FISCO) simplifying system designand documentation. Separate entity inputsafety parameters also allow connection tomost non-FISCO intrinsically safe systems.A BA414DF indicator may therefore beconnected to almost any intrinsically safefieldbus segment, provided the segment cansupply 13mA to power the instrument. Forapplications in combustible dusts a separateversion is available.
FM, CFM and IECEx approvals allow instal-lation in the USA, Canada, plus the growingnumber of countries accepting IECEx certifi-cates which already includes Australia andNew Zealand. All approvals incorporateFISCO certification. Details of the versionsavailable are shown in the How to Ordersection on the reverse side of this datasheet.
The FOUNDATION fieldbusTM Interface Guidecontains commissioning information for theBA414DF indicator. A copy may be requestedfrom the BEKA sales office or from the BEKAweb site at www.beka.co.uk
Units of measurement and the instrumentapplication or tag number can be economi-cally marked onto the display escutcheonprior to despatch or after installation on-site.Alternatively, for customers who prefer astainless steel label, the indicator can besupplied with a removable blank or custometched stainless steel plate mounted on thefront of the enclosure.
For panel mounting applications see theBA418CF datasheet. This instrument has asimilar electrical specification but is housed ina 144 x 72 panel mounting enclosure.

The BA484DF Fieldbus Display is an intrinsically safe instrument that can displayup to eight fieldbus process variables. Nineselectable standard screen formats containone, two, three or four variables, with units of measurement, tag descriptions andbargraphs on some screens. The use of standard screens simplifies commissioning, but if required dedicated screens tailored toan individual application can be constructed.
FOUNDATION fieldbusTM and Profibus PAversions of the BA484DF are available andhave been registered by both organisations. The FOUNDATION fieldbusTM version now hasselectable function blocks allowing use withmost popular system hosts. Configurationfiles may be downloaded from the appro-priate Fieldbus FoundationTM or Profibussites, or from www.beka.co.uk.
Powered by the fieldbus the BA484DF only requires a 2-wire connection, no additional power supply Zener barriers or galvanic isolators are required. The highcontrast 86 x 45mm liquid crystal displayincorporates a green backlight enabling thedisplay to be read in all lighting conditionsfrom full sunlight to total darkness.
Simple commissioning results from the useof standard display formats. Apart fromloading the BA484DF configuration files ontothe system host and selecting the fieldbusvariables to be displayed, no programming isrequired. Configuration of the BA484DFFieldbus Display is performed via the fieldbusand the instrument front panel push buttons.
ATEX, FM and IECEx intrinsic safety certification allows the BA484DF to beinstalled in gas and dust hazardous areas. The two fieldbus terminals comply with theFieldbus Intrinsic Safety Concept (FISCO)simplifying system design and documenta-tion, although connection to non-FISCOintrinsically safe systems is possible usingthe entity concept. This allows a BA484DF display to be directlyconnected to almost any hazardous fieldbus
segment, provided that the segment cansupply the 25mA consumed by the display.
Six optional alarm outputs may be linked toany of the displayed variables. Each isolatedsingle pole solid state output may be condi-tioned as a combined high and low alarm, oras just a high or low alarm. All the outputscomply with the requirements for simpleapparatus, which permits them to switch anycertified intrinsically safe load such as anintrinsically safe sounder, lamp or solenoidvalve.
Custom display screens dedicated to aspecific application can be created by writingto the transducer block parameters. Customd e s i g n e d d i s p l a y screens can containtext in five different fontsizes plus lines, boxes,b a r g r a p h s , s i m p l egraphics and fieldbusprocess variables. Freeprogramming utilities toassist with screendevelopment are available via the BEKA website.
The four push buttons on the front of theinstrument may be used for returning operator acknowledgments or controls byreading a transducer block parameter. Iflarger industrial switches are required forthese acknowledgements, up to six externalpush buttons may be connected to theBA484DF. When the external switches areactivated, the front panel push buttons maybe disabled or operated in parallel with theexternal switches.
Comprehensive documentation includesFOUNDATION fieldbusTM and Profibus InterfaceGuides and a Programming Guide thatexplains how to create custom displayscreens.
For panel mounting applications see theBA488CF datasheet. This instrument has asimilar electrical specification but is housed ina 144 x 72 panel mounting enclosure.

The BA488CF Fieldbus Display is an intrinsically safe instrument that can displayup to eight fieldbus process variables. Nineselectable standard screen formats containone, two, three or four variables, with units of measurement, tag descriptions andbargraphs on some screens. The use of standard screens simplifies commissioning, but if required dedicated screens tailored toan individual application can be constructed.
FOUNDATION fieldbusTM and Profibus PAversions of the BA488CF are available andhave been registered by both organisations. The FOUNDATION fieldbusTM version now hasselectable function blocks allowing use withmost popular system hosts. Configurationfiles may be downloaded from the appro-priate Fieldbus FoundationTM or Profibussites, or from www.beka.co.uk.
Powered by the fieldbus the BA488CF onlyrequires a 2-wire connection, no additionalpower supply Zener barriers or galvanicisolators are required. The high contrast 86 x45mm liquid crystal display incorporates agreen backlight that is also powered from thefieldbus enabling the display to be read in alllighting conditions from full sunlight to totaldarkness.
Simple commissioning results from the useof standard display formats. Apart fromloading the BA488CF configuration files ontothe system host and selecting the fieldbusvariables to be displayed, no programming isrequired. Configuration of the BA488CFFieldbus Display is performed via the fieldbusand the instrument front panel push buttons.
ATEX, FM & IECEx intrinsic safety certifi-cation allows the BA488CF to be installed ingas hazardous areas worldwide. The twofieldbus terminals comply with the FieldbusIntrinsic Safety Concept (FISCO) simplifyingsystem design and documentation, althoughconnection to non-FISCO intrinsically safesegments is possible using the entityconcept. This allows a BA488CF to be directly connected to almost any hazardous
fieldbus providing the segment can supplythe 25mA consumed by the display.
Six optional alarm outputs may be linked toany of the displayed variables. Each isolatedsingle pole solid state output may be condi-tioned as a combined high and low alarm, or as just a high or low alarm. All the outputscomply with the requirements for simpleapparatus, which permits them to switch any certified intrinsically safe load such as an intrinsically safe sounder, lamp or solenoid valve.
Custom display screens dedicated to aspecific application may be created by writingto the transducer block parameters. Customdesigned displays can contain text in fivedifferent font sizes pluslines, boxes, bargraphs, simple graphics andf i e l d b u s p r o c e s s variables. Free pro-gramming utilities toassist with screendevelopment are available via the BEKA website.
The six push buttons on the front of theinstrument may be used for returning oper-ator acknowledgments or controls by readinga transducer block parameter. If larger indus-trial switches are required for theseacknowledgements, up to six external pushbuttons may be connected to the BA488CF.When the external switches are activated, thefront panel push buttons may be disabled oroperated in parallel with the externalswitches.
Comprehensive documentation includesFOUNDATION fieldbusTM and Profibus InterfaceGuides and a Programming Guide thatexplains how to create custom displayscreens.
For field mounting applications see theBA484DF datasheet. This instrument has asimilar electrical specification but is housed ina robust IP66 GRP enclosure suitable forexternal mounting.
