CREATING SAFE SPACES

Baseball has the power to change lives. We believe that having access to safe spaces in which to play baseball, spend time with friends, develop life-skills and

learn from positive role models is the right of all Canadian kids.

Through the Field of Dreams grants program, Jays Care Foundation hasinvested more than $5.2 million in the creation of 54 safe youth

spaces, including 27 baseball fields across Canada to date.

“The Miracle League of Ottawa is very proud to have Jays Care Foundation as our partner as we prepare to open Ottawa’s first barrier-free and accessible baseball field

for children with special needs...the support provided to us by Jays Care has paved the way for us to ensure this project will happen this summer. Our partnership with

Jays Care has enabled us to not only move forward on capital construction, butfacilitated new community investments to initiate our core operations and secure

interest from families all over Ottawa.”- David Gourley, President, The Ottawa Champions Baseball Club

The York Baseball Association was awarded a $175,000 Field of Dreams grant in 2013 which was used torefurbish Smythe Park in Toronto, ON, located in a Toronto Community Housing priority neighbourhood.

The area in question has been identified by the United Way as having a Social Rate Index of HIGH RISK. It has the second highest percentage of vulnerable children with multiple challenges. This linked with the City of Kingston’sRecreation Master plan, as they had identified a need for a gymnasium and swimming pool in the area.

Their proposal included the creation of multiple partnerships with sporting and recreation groups, such as dance, boxing, soccer, basketball, karate, ect.
