Economical Solution for Integrated Fiber Preparation Tool Demand.

For FTTH installation and deployment, the mechanical connectors have been widely used, but that is to say up till now. Eventhough the fiber installers know the problems associated with low quality, weak durability and high installation andmaintenance cost of the mechanical connectors, they have avoided using splice-on connectors just because the cost is toohigh.

However, after a research has found the result of FTTH field trial, as that 10-20% of the mechanical connectors havemaintenance problem right after installation and 25~35% of the connectors have more maintenance problem after 2~3 years.Due to this serious problem, the mechanical connector users have made a switch to splice-on connectors rapidly. For thisreason, Ilsintech has made the purchasing cost of splice-on connector and installation cost lower than the mechanicalconnectors and developed and been supplying a semi-permanent FTTH solution and assures that FTTH connector andtransmission equipment connector will spread in near future.

Ilsintech has turn a new concept into FTTH fusion splicer (Swift F1) basing on Ilsintech's high precision technology of opticalindustrial field which has been accumulated in the past andperforms 5 multi-operational tasks including heat stripping(NoCrack on the fiber No broken fiber in harsh environment),cleaning, cleaving, splicing and sleeving systematically.

On one hand, Ilsintech has applied the fusion splicingtechnology of Swift F1 to the field-installable splice-onconnector as it is and integration of the ferrule part improvesthe field work efficiency dramatically. On the other hand,Ilsintech has resolved the problems associated with lowquality, weak durability and high installation and maintenancecost of mechanical connectors, reduced the manufacturingcost of splice-on connector and supplied at the high price, bycompleting the development of field installable fusion splice-onconnector, which is complementary to Swift F1, so anybodycan use the field installable fusion splice-on connector.

The splice-on connector can be used not only in the field ofcommunication but also widely used in advanced technicalfields including aero space, military, ship-building, medical andpower plant and the pictures shown in the right and bottom ofthis page describe the configuration of FTTx Network solution.

Even if the ferrule is pressed toward the primary fiber, the ferrulecan be bent up to the clamp gently, because the ferrule bush is sleeved in the inside ofthe stop ring, also bending the fiber sharply is prevented. Additionally, the primary fiberand external cable are clamped together for high tensile force(more than 60N).

1. As shown above in the figure 3 and 4, if a manufacturer supplies the sheath fiber of the ferrule which have been cleavedand stripped already

The surface of the fiber can be oxidized by exposing the sheath of the optical cable in air for long timeDuring the field work process, damage and handling cautions are required (the major cause for the work efficiency to be reduced and defect ratio and cost of production)Difficult to work because the ferrule must be bonded by epoxy as 125um bare fiberTroublesome to cleave and package

[Major Cause]The major reason, that the manufacturer strip the sheath of fiber in advance and then commercialize, is that they can notresolve the technical problems associated with fiber stripping defect, hackle on the fiber surface and separation betweenferrule which can take place in the field during the mechanical stripping.- Ilsintech has resolved the problems completely in Swift F1 fusion splicer basing on its supreme precision processing

technology. (PCT/KR2006/001487)

2. If the sock observer of the stop ring is sleeved by heat shrink sleeve after fusion splicing the ferrule fiber and primary fiber and theferrule takes a load toward the primary fiber, the fiber can be disconnected as shown in Figure 5, because of the rapidtransformation in the fiber- To resolve this problem, the ferruled is installed to disperse the transformation of which the structural features are shown
