Tensioning of the belts is a childs playwith the new ROSTA Motorbase Type MB 70!

Easy pre-tensioning by means of two pull-out ratchets

old pre-tensioning unit new pre-tensioning unit

relatively energy-sapping slow pre-ten-sioning; danger of dirt accumulation

easy and effortless pre-tensioning; fullyencapsulated trapezoid threaded spin-dle, permanently greased and dirt pro-tected

In the past 10 years ROSTA Motor-bases types MB 27, 38, 50, 70 and100 have convinced a growing numberof followers from the mechanical engi-neering field of the advantages of itssel re-tensioning and energy-efcient motor mounts.

The advantages and the resultant cus-tomer benefits of these standardisedmachine components for drive techno-logy are obvious:

Almost slippage-ree trans-mission o the torque to thedriven unit

No energy loss because obelt slippage

    Constant compensation obelt lengthening

Up to 3 times longer beltservice lie (reduces peaktorques)

Absolutely maintenance-reebelt drive (no periodical re-tensioning)

Fastest belt change withoutre-adjustment o pulleys

Very long service lie o theautomatic ROSTA motorbase

The four motorbase sizes of the MB 70series are allocated to motor framesizes 250 M to 315 L for drive unitsweighing from 400 to 1,000 kgs. The

previous pre-tensioning system using anadjustable stand and fine-thread screwM 20 x 1,5 was relatively slow for theseheavy motors and energy-sapping, asthe friction resistance of the fine-threadscrew was high, especially by dirtythreads. A new feature is that the twopre-tensioning units of the MB 70 se-ries have two ully encapsulated, horizontal trapezoid threadedspindles with a high pitch of bolt.

Rapid pre-tensioning of the belt alone isnot enough. To ensure optimum powertransmission from the driver to the drivenpulley the test load recommended bythe belt manufacturermustbe checkedbefore operation with an appropriate in-strument (e.g. a spring scale from Gatesor Optibelt or with an infrared soundwave measuring device). The traditionalthumb pressure measuring method is

absolutely unsuitable. Depending on thetesters form of the day, the measuredvalues can be up to 100 % wrong!

New Generation of Oscillating Shaker Conveyorsfor Harbin Boshi Automation, China!

Harbin Boshi Automation Co.,Ltd. is located in Harbin, capital ofChinas northernmost province Hei-longjiang. The company was founded

in 1997 and specialises in the const-ruction and production of logistics ma-chines and equipment for the handlingof bulk goods. The product range con-sists mainly of sorting systems, big-bagfilling machines, bulk goods transportsystems, automatic stack storage andsystems for the transshipment of goods torail, road and ships.

For the intermediate transport and dos-ing of the bulk goods that are mostly

powdery, Harbin Boshi uses oscillatingconveyors. The design of these con-veyors was originally based on a slidercrank system with rocker arms consistingof polyester slats reinforced with fibre-glass. In order to reduce reaction forces, the machine frame also rested on hol-

New concept with counter-mass suspensions using ROSTA AD-P 50 double rockers

Prototype of the new concept shaker con-veyor with AD-P 50 rocker arms

Series production of two-mass oscillating conveyors at Harbin Boshi

low springs made of rubber. The high os-cillation amplitude of 22 mm quickly ledto material fatigue at the clamping points

of the fibreglass slats. After an operatingperiod of only three months this led tothe breakdown of these suspensions andto a temporary shut-down of the plant.Harbin Boshi urgently needed a reli-able shaker conveyor.

In 2010 technicians from Boshi visitedthe BAUMA-Shanghai exhibition and atthe ROSTA stand they saw oscillatingconveyors with rubber-suspended rockerarms. They decided to cooperate withROSTA and after intensive consultationsa new generation of conveyors wasdeveloped. This was a two-mass shakerconveyor with direct mass counterbal-ance, resting on ROSTA double rockerstype AD-P 50.

In June 2010 Mr Kevin Zhou, productmanager of the Joint-Venture CompanyROSTA/Miki Pulley China and a tech-nician from ROSTA AG visited the Boshicompany in Harbin. A prototype of thenew concept machine was first devel-oped to ensure correct construction andprecise alignment. The prototype wasthen precisely measured out by the Har-bin staff and the ROSTA team using alaser level. First of all, the double rockerarms have been bolted on the machineframe, subsequently the conveyor troughhas been connected on the upper rocker-arm ends and eventually the counter-masswas fixed at the lower end of the guide

arms. Finally the slider crank system wasconnected to the channel by means oftwo output drive heads of type ST 60.The new oscillating conveyor immediate-ly started working perfectly and thanks tothe precisely balanced counter-mass thesystem worked completely reaction-free(without bolting to the ground).

In the meantime, Harbin Boshi had deliv-ered plenty of these new-concept shakermachines to its customers. The oscillatingconveyors are from 8 to 12 metres longand are all based on the same concept. The eccentric radius is 12 mm, the speedis 380 min-1, the machine performance

    Customer beneft:

Harbin Boshi is now in a position to offerabsolutely reliable oscillating con-veyors for the intermediate transport ofpowdery goods for their highly complexbulk goods transhipment systems.

Almost all plants operate a three-shift sys-tem, and the ROSTA oscillating elementsare not subject to material atigue orto shutdown periods.

In close cooperation with the machinemanufacturer and ROSTA technicians, atailor-made design for the client wasdeveloped and tested.
