MICROPOROUS NICKEL PROCESS MPS 300, from Atotech, initiates a new generation of microporous nick- el processes specially developed to improve corrosion protection in multilayer nickel systems for auto- motive applications.

Decorative coatings for exterior automotive applications usually require a high grade of corrosion protection, achieved through the use of multilayer nickel systems. Within the multilayer nickel/chrome system,

MPS 300 is applied as a final nickel layer following the bright nickel step. Newly developed pore inducers and supporting additives provide the uniform co-deposition of micro-par- ticles, producing a well-defined micro-porosity and, thus, a con- trolled corrosion attack in the subse- quent chromium layer.

MPS 300 is free of complexing agents, and it is suitable for plastic and metal-based applications. The potential (20-50 mV) as well as the pore count (5,000-50,000 p/cm ~) are adjustable, and it produces a brilliant

and haze-free deposit. MPS 300 sig- nificantly improves the overall corro- sion protection of all multilayer nickel systems. For more informa- tion, visit www.atotech.com.

XRF ANALYZER Oxford Instruments has announced the launch of a new, robust X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer, the X-METSO00, for accurate and reli- able identification of metal alloys. The X-METS000 represents the fourth generation of Oxford Instruments' hand-held analyzers. This design experience, combined with Oxford Instruments' patented PentaFET detector technology, pro- vides fast analysis and lower detec- tion limits for all elements of interest.

The current high prices of com- modities metals, nickel in particular, make the accurate determination of alloy composition critical to the financial success of modern recycling operations. The X-METS000 quickly
