About Surat The host city "Surat", is business gateway to India from more than
two centuries.

city of India.
It is the fastest growing Indian city in terms of economic
Prosperity with highest growth in GDP.

Surat is known as the "The Textile & Embroidery capital" of India,
with almost 65% share in India's total manmade (synthetic) fabric
business.
Over 6,50,000 looms consuming 2800 tons of yarn per day.
over 450 processing houses.
Employment for over 1 million people .

A Handloom city now converted to Power loom & imported
(Chinese) loom across Surat.
There are 8 lac Looms (manufacturer) & 50000 Traders, due to poor ratio of
production and sale, many manufacturer company shut their operation in Surat.
Technology used in manufacturing is not world class, less of productivity &
production. Competing with world class Quality and quantity need to be upgraded

Revised TUFS scheme is not benefitted to Surat manufacturer, To gain capital
subsidy machine needs to Weft operated as 600 – 1000/ Meter/ Minute.

Once FDI enters in Retail, Textile and garment industry need to m ore

quantity with quality. If they purchase form our competitive country, loss is ours not theirs..
Interview with Mr. K. B. Prasad, VP, Textile engineering – Garment and Home Textile Machinery, ATE
TVC : Surat Textile industry overview, History
KP : Surat city is largely recognized for its textile and diamond businesses. It is also known as the diamond ca pital of the world and the Manchester textile city of India . Garment industry started approx. 10 years ago & is growing rapidly.
TVC : Reasons for Development as Textile Hub …
KP : Availability of electricity, power, skilled labour, easy availability of land, etc. are major reasons for development of Sura t as a textile hub.
TVC : Surat in Garment segments
KP : A variety of garments are produced in Surat,
production of Denims, PNC Garments,
Formal & casual shirts, ladies garments, kids, Many
more. The garment factories are spread out in Surat apparel park, Hoziwala and adjoining areas like Udhna. Howe ver, the no. of factories is just around 40—50 including small manufacturers.
TVC : Market acceptability of new entrant, any barrier for new entrant in market?
KP
: New entrants in the market are accepted in the market without much problem. Every production & value addition is different for each manufacturer.
TVC
: Brand importance & acceptance in market..
KP : Brands in the garment machinery play an important part in Surat region because they believe in reliability of the machine if the brand is established. Chinese machines though have played a mass role in setting up the factories but manufacturers are not satisfied with the quality of machines.
TVC : ATE
presence in Surat market .
KP : From the garment division, A.T.E. Enterprises Pvt Ltd is en gaged with development in quality & productivity of apparels, at most of the garment manufacturers in Surat. The factories in apparel park are not doing great because of the limitations to export o nly from this apparel park. Domestic players are not able t o set up their units in the apparel park. Ladies garment manufacturers like Sahiba Fabrics & others are doing quite well. We have promoted all kinds of automation products for shirt manufacturers like BAMBOOS and such ot hers. Recent set up of the Denim
unit, like that of PNC Garments in an indication of diversification of the apparel trend in Surat market.
