At the 46th FIBEP Congress, the biggest global conference of media intelligence companies which was held in March 2014 in Dubai, Karolina Fursewicz of PRESS-SERVICE Monitoring Mediów Sp. z o.o. presented a pan-regional picture of media intelligence sector in Central & Eastern Europe. The region is extremely diverse in terms of number of countries, their size, population, GDP and in terms of number of languages spoken across the region. The development of media monitoring sector was rather late and started only in 1990s. At the same time, it was very rapid and not-equal across the region. We can say that media intelligence services are more advanced in the countries which experienced more direct investments from Western European and American companies after the fall of communism, with these companies bringing their expectations and standards regarding media monitoring and analysis. There are about 90 media monitoring companies across the region. Most of them still provide mostly basic clipping service, but at the same time we observe a growing need for in-depth media analysis and measurement. The market is clearly falling apart in two parts: automated service and software as a service for clients focused on lowering the price, and on the other hand: customized, value-added service for corporate clients interested in more analytical services and products. Media monitoring companies try to fulfill both needs.
