FIAT DUCATOUSED-CARS

FIAT’s sixth-generation Ducato features an updated trade van that loads up with safety as well as equipment fit for a mobile office.

Details of the new Ducato have appeared online, boasting what Fiat says is a car-like design blended in with the traditional light commercial vehicle form.

“The new Fiat Professional vehicle further develops the concept of "design connected to functionality" which has always characterised the model,” Fiat said in a statement announcing the new model.

“In particular, among the new features, are two different colours for the grill, skid plate, new 16-inch rims, new LED headlights, and three-part front bumper to reduce repair costs.”

The cabin features three different trim levels that the Italian commercial vehicle maker says are more refined and elegant, with new seats enhanced for comfort and a cup-holder built into the centre console.

“The new Ducato is also the first vehicle to bring the segment the exclusive ‘multifunction holder’ available in the middle of all dashboards in the range and compatible with all devices such as smartphones and tablets in addition to normal pads of paper,” Fiat said.

The Ducato comes with a choice of three engines, starting with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine producing 86kW of power and 280Nm of torque when paired with a

five-speed manual gearbox.

A 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine will be available in two states of tune: either a 97kW/320Nm

version, or as a 112kW/350Nm version, and both paired with a six-speed manual gearbox by default.

The range-topping 3.0-litre diesel engine produces 134kW/400Nm when combined with a six-speed manual.

According to Fiat, the Ducato’s robustness and reliability has been improved with re-enforcements on the body and

the closures; as well as optimised braking comfort and performance and improved lifespan on the suspension

and clutch

Part of the weight reduction is down to its special rear suspension made from composite materials. In terms of safety, the sixth-generation Ducato includes electronic stability control as standard, along with a load detection system that

can sense when more weight is on board, a hill hold function, traction control and anti-lock brakes.

The new Ducato boasts “the best gross vehicle weight (up to 4.4 tonnes), weight on the rear axle (up to 2.5 tonnes) and payload (up to 2.1 tonnes for vans) of the entire 'single wheels' category”.

The sixth-generation van also improves efficiency and running costs, with Fiat saying it had focussed on reducing the Ducato’s kerb weight and increasing its payload.
