We helped a client save $2 million a year through more efficient refuelling
For one of our clients, an integrated nickel
mine and processing facility, tracking fuel
was becoming difficult. They estimated that
annually, they had around 6% in fuel losses that
they simply couldn’t account for. To help rectify
this situation, they turned to FluidIntel.
This includes the type and quantity of fuel acquired
for the business activities; the date it was acquired;
that the fuel was used in the business; the business
activities the fuel was used in, such as whether
it was for travelling on a public road or in other
activities; and that the correct fuel tax credit rate
was used when calculating the claim.

Solution:
We worked closely with this client to understand
their needs and create a bespoke AdaptFMS
solution that would integrate with the client’s
existing authorisation systems, including
employee ID cards and their Gallagher/Cardex
database.
The solution was implemented in four key stages.
In the first stage, we ensured secure dispenses
to over 1,500 vehicles and the plant. In the
second stage, we installed AdaptSMUs on HVs for
identification and authorisation of engine hours,
and in the third stage, we implemented remote
tank monitoring. Most recently, in stage four,
we have installed instruments to help the client
measure their fuel consumption by fixed plant in
the processing facility.
Benefit:
Currently, the site uses approximately 72 million
litres of diesel per annum. In the final phase,
we will incorporate updates to enable the
measurement of High Sulphuric Fuel Oil (HSFO)
for the process plant, as well as ship-to-shore
custody transfer.
Overall, the client now has the ability to save
approximately 6% of their fuel stocks. They
also enjoy a fully automated system with no
manual inputs, which drastically reduces the
chance of human error, and they receive relevant
and useful reports, which enables more accurate
decision making.
