Dissection of Nerves of the Brachial Plexus
The Brachial Plexus is a network of nerves found in the axillary region. These nerves lead to and serve the
foreleg.

Radial Nerve
This is the largest nerve of the Brachial Plexus. Itis located just under the biceps brachii and serves
the triceps brachii.
At this point, the RadialNerve disappearsand branches to serve the triceps.

Sciatic Nerve
The sciatic nerve is a very large nerve about 1/4” thick. It passes below the muscles of the lateral surface of the thigh and gluteal area. It regulates the thigh and lower leg muscles.

Muscular Branch of the Sciatic Nerve
The Muscular Branch nerve is the 1st major proximal
branch of the sciatic nerve. It supplies the biceps femoris,
semitendinosus, semimembranosus,
and adductor femoris muscles.

Tibial Nerve
Tibial Nerve
The Tibial Nerve is a major
branch of the sciatic. It serves
the gastrocnemius
and soleus muscles.

Common Peroneal NerveThe Common
Peroneal Nerve branches away from the root of the sciatic nerve at the same site
as the tibial nerve. It regulates
contraction in the peroneus longus
and tibialis anterior muscles.

Sympathetic Trunk Nerve
The Sympathetic Trunk Nerves (there are several of them) lie on either side of the vertebral column. They extend from the base of the skull to the tail. The bumps are called rami and they are
nerve ganglia.

You have now completed yourcat dissection. Seniors - Please put your cat under Lab Station
#8. Juniors - Store your cat under the microscope storage
case. Please wrap your cat up in its double plastic bag and secure
completely.
