Placement Test, Grades 3-5
Family and Friends Placement Grades 3 - 5
Instructions and Rubric
The Family and Friends Placement Tests are designed to help teachers accurately
place students into the correct grade based on their existing knowledge of English.
This Placement Test will assign students into a level from grades 3 – 5.
This test includes a short listening section which needs to be read by the teacher.
Students are assessed on all four skills and grammatical structures and vocabulary
which increase in level of difficulty throughout the test. If a student cannot answer
further questions, then stop the test and mark what has been completed. A student
at Grade 3 for example will probably be unable to complete the final pages and it is
better to allow this student to stop rather than creating tension by allowing them to
fail.
The ideal time to allow students for this test is up to 35 minutes.
Please see the final pages for the answer key.
The following scoring descriptors will demonstrate which grade of Family and Friends students should be placed in.
