Thi s e/('fnentary school was pro­grammed to meet the challenge of a .,tudt•nt body who spoke liule or no Ellglis!t alld was situated in an eco­llOm ically depressed section of a hot, dusty, south we stem city. Absenteeism among the student~ was a major prob­lem during the agricultural season and had to be considered. Administrators were faced with the task of deciding what kind of education these cl,ildren vf ,l/ exican immigra11t~ should receive, and how many different le1,e/s of aca­demic skill could be arranged into a .1clwol orga11i:ation.

The .school. was designed lo proi;ide cool., du.stl.ess, interwrs u:hich open onto shaded outdoor space. It i.s a cluster of four separate quadruplexes u•hich combine u:ilh translucent ca­nopies lo capture ouJdoor .space for circulation, leaching and play.

The u:hile plastic canopies are man­made '·shade lree.s" u:hich lraMmit only 20 per cent of the sunlight.

Membership in the Pr oducer s' Coun­cil is by invitation only. It is a na­tional organization composed of manufacturers of quality building ma­terials and equipment, with headquar­ters in Washington, D. C.

Monarch Tile is a major manufacturer of glazed ceramic wall tile. and dis­tributes wall and floor tile throughout a large Mid-America region.

The pricipal objective of the Pro­ducers' Council is to promote the use of quality products in the construc­tion industry.

The recent surge in these construc tion typec:, al­most eliminating their deficit to date, allows the total to reflect fully the really vigorous tempo of building,'' expla ined Christie.

Nonr esidential building contra cts in May amounted to Sl,452,lM,OOO, up 14 per cent compa red to the like 1962 month. Contracts for manufacturing plants posted a better than 50 per cent gain, the second consecutive one, al­though commercial building was off 2 per cent.
