While the adults will love checking out the silentauction and their children's art, the kids can delight inthe arts and crafts booths. This year, we are bringingback the Rad Hatter and her extraordinary paper baghats. Craft passes will be $10 for the first child, and $5for each additional child. Volunteers are needed tohelp staff the craft tables. If you can help, pleasecontact Sandra Gibson at [email protected].

If you are a foodie, you're sure to get excited aboutthis year's array of food trucks. Don Chow Tacos,Downtown Dogs, and Sweet E's Bake Shop are allexpected to serve up deliciousness at the festival.

If you aren't able to attend the Festival of the Arts, youdon't have to miss out on all the fun! Check out nextweek's E-Backpack for the Teacher Events Pre-Bidinformation. For these special events, teachersdonate their time to hang out with students outside ofclass time. This year's list includes a Muppetmarathon with Mrs. Brownwell and Mrs. Mussack,laser tag with Mr. Brescher at Ultrazone, a game ofCapture the Flag with Coach Kelly and Mrs. Klein, atrip to Color Me Mine with Mrs. Banuelos and Mrs.Blincoe, and 32 more! If you can't make it March 15,be sure to return your Pre-Bid forms by March 7.

Tosucceed in its mission, theBSC board needs a varietyof skills and talents, as wellas dedication to makingBalboa Magnet be the bestit can be. In short, theBalboa Spirit Club needsYOU!

Eat Up andMeet Up atBalboaDo you have any questionsor concerns about what isgoing on at Balboa? Drop infor Breakfast with thePrincipal after you drop offyour child at school onFebruary 28, and get themanswered! Mrs. Davenportand Spirit Club officers willbe on hand to let you knowwhat's coming up for Balboastudents -- both in theclassroom (iPads!) and out(Festival of the Arts! BookFair!). Share your concernsand ideas, and get involved!

Balboa enrichment programs. Congratulations are inorder for the top fundraising classes: Mrs. Conway'sstudents for Grades 1-3; and Mrs. Mussack's class forGrades 4-5. They will receive a pizza party and $100to be spent in the classroom.

The Spell-A-Thon has been a team effort. We wouldlike to thank and recognize the hard work of all of ourvolunteers: Monica Dragavon, Eric Taylor, DelisaSexton, Lisa Labowitz, Stacy Soendker, MaggieMcNally, Jodi Xua, Bernadette Hanson, Wanda Yung,Ilene Sutter, Angie Medina, Aya Katzaroff, MelyndaSchuster-Bodyfelt, Laura Shewfelt, Connie Chin,Sheila Rosental, Aya Osawa, Rosa Gonzalez, JohnRocha, Jocelyn Guihama, Robin Desowitz, andLourdes Guerrero. These volunteers kicked off theevent, organized the paperwork, and processedpledge donations. We would also like to thank Mrs.Davenport, Mrs. Chun, Leila Vickers, RosalieGraveline, and Debra Conklin for their constantsupport of one of our largest fundraisers. Thank youto our incredible Balboa Magnet teachers for theirsupport and assistance to make this Spell-A-Thon sosuccessful. Most of all, thank you to the Balboastudents and their families for studying and doing wellon the spelling tests and participating with donationsto support the necessary and essential enrichmentstaff and programs.
