FESTIVAL OF MUSIC CHOIR PERFORMANCE On Wednesday, 8th August, 18 students from WLPS joined 120 students from
Ramco, Morgan, Waikerie, Kingston on Murray, Cobdogla, Barmera and Rivergum
College to perform as the Riverland Primary Schools’ Festival of Music Choir. The
performance consisted of 13 songs, ranging from popular songs, ballads, songs in
different languages as well as songs that were commissioned specifically for the
Festival of Music. Four students (Ellie Bald, Grace Borgas, Haylee Gore and Ellen
Kroehn) from our school were selected to perform as soloists during the evening
and we were also given the privilege as a choir to perform the solo part in the
opening song, Djapana (a song made popular in the 80’s by Australian Band
Yothu Yindi). We also had one of our students, Olivia Ebert, perform as an Assisting
Artist in a two part dance piece with former WLPS student Nicola Schmidt. This
year’s concert really showcased the incredible talent that our school possesses
and the end result was a true testament to the hard work and dedication put in by
all of the students involved! Melissa Schmidt

Last Friday, 20 students from WLPS, accompanied by Mr Braun and Mr Borgas, attended the SAPSASA Athletics
Carnival held at Loxton High School. All of our students put in their best effort and represented our school well.
We had a few of our students achieve placings which is fantastic! Congratulations to Malachi Lloyd who
came 3rd for the 11 year old boys High Jump and 6th for the 11 year old boys 100m, Stella Thomas who
placed 2nd in the 13 year old girls High Jump and Latia Loffler who placed 3rd in the 200m, 1st in the 11 year
old girls 800m and 1st in the 11 year old girls Long Jump (also breaking record with a PB of 4m)!
After the scores were tallied, WLPS tied for first place with Cobdogla Primary School in the small schools
category and ranked 3rd overall with a handicap which is incredible. Stay tuned for a photo of the athletics
team with the shield, which will be taken once we have received it.

to attend a 2 day inquiry based
workshop in Adelaide.

Breakfast Club Update Since the beginning of this term, we
have been running Breakfast Club on
Monday and Thursday mornings from
8:30am until 8:45am. Our first session
was a bit light on as the Year 5/6/7
students were on camp, but since
then we have consistently had
around 30 students pop in to enjoy
either some toast, a cup of milo or just
to have a chat. It is so heart warming
to see the students gathering around
in the mornings, chatting over food
and washing up their own dishes. We
must say a huge thank you to Tamara
McPherson and Carmel Wuttke for
coming in to help each week since
we started. It would be wonderful if
we could have a few more parent
volunteers to assist on either morning
to ensure that all students are able to
enjoy some toast or milo in a timely
manner (particularly the kids that
come to school on the bus). If you
would be willing to assist, please
contact Melissa Schmidt or Jane
Shugg in the office.
Kindy Visit to WLPS This Thursday, we will have around 41
students from the Waikerie Kindy
come to our school for a Music and
Science morning! We pray they have
an enjoyable visit!
Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a Christ-Centred community equipping each student for life.
CORNER OF PEACE
RECOGNISING OUR STUDENT SUPPORT OFFICERS This week is SSO (Student Support Officer) week and with this in mind, we would like to acknowledge the
incredible work that our SSO’s do at WLPS. Each and every member of our support staff bring with them
special gifts and talents that we, as a school, could not effectively function without! Thank you to Mrs
Kalisch, Miss Platten, Mrs Souter and Mrs Canney for their hard work with curriculum support; to Mrs Ganner
for her work with the children at lunch time and for her love and care; to Mrs Mudge for looking after our
school library, looking after our YEL students and helping Mr Braun with PMP; to Mr DeVroome for ensuring
our school grounds are looked after; to our cleaners, Kelly, Hayley and Ken (sorry I could not find a photo of
our lovely cleaners) for keeping our school spick and span and; to Mrs Shugg and Mrs Schmidt for being our
admin angels and guardians of the icepack and to Mrs Schmidt for her support of our school choir. We are
very blessed to have these special staff members supporting our teachers, students and families.
Our God and Saviour is eternal and is the “I Am” in all things. He is the First and
the Last, the Beginning and the End; We can take great comfort and
encouragement in our daily life that the great “I Am”, the First and Last, has
promised that in turning to Him everyone will be saved.
God’s blessing to you all this week
Moira
STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Teaching children about our Learner Profiles; Inquirer, Caring, Balanced, Knowledgeable, Risk -
Taker, Communicator, Reflective, Open – Minded, Thinker and Principled provides them with the tool kit
for successfully relating with others. As a way of celebrating the demonstration of these principles by
students, staff have elected these students this week.
Year 6/7 Class (Mr Braun and Mrs O’Brien) Grit - Aaron Schmidt. It is fantastic to see Aaron try really hard during Mental Maths and complete as
many questions as he can. You are showing awesome grit Aaron. Keep it up!
Open-Minded - Cody Wilson. It is pleasing to see Cody being more open-minded during UOI. It was great
to see her be open to her groups’ suggestion and working collaboratively. Well done Cody!
Year 5/6 Class (Mrs Burns) Grit - Chantelle Briant. Chantelle showed great courage to take a risk and get on stage last week to
perform in the Riverland Festival of Music. Great job Chantelle, we are proud of your efforts!
Principled - Hugh Thomas. Hugh demonstrated an excellent example of being principled in buddy class
on Friday. He showed exceptional listening skills and consistently participated when appropriate. Keep
up the great work habits Hugh!
Year 3/4 Class (Mr Fladrich) Grit - Lacey Borg. Lacey displayed grit when she worked hard to complete her research about Kuarna
seasons. Well done Lacey!
Inquirer – Abbigail Neal. Abbigail was an enthusiastic inquirer when she researched her animal during self
guided inquiry. Well done Abbi!
Year 1/2 Class (Mrs Waterson) Reflective - Johnny Mackintosh. Johnny has been reflective within his writing, acknowledging areas in
need of improvement and then striving to achieve his goals. Well done Johnny! I am proud of your
efforts!
Principled - Evie Gill. Evie has been principled in the classroom by trying her best to maintain focus when
sitting on the mat. Well done Evie! Keep it up!
Foundation/Year 1 Class (Mrs Beelitz) Grit – Jonah Kroehn. Jonah showed grit when thinking of a variety of ideas expressing his perspective of
various terms to describe “God”. Great thinking Jonah!
Communicator - Lyra Lawson. Lyra communicated her knowledge of number when determining reasons
for different numbers being the odd one out. Great work Lyra!
