NZTC LAUNCHES HEALTH & WELLBEING QUALIFICATIONS

The College will initially offer two New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) approved qualifications that feature a unique blend of theoretical and practical study that ensures students put their learning into practice.

The New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3) will begin in March and a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4) will launch in July 2017 with plans to launch a Level 5 qualification later in the year.

With our global population ageing there has never been a time when educated, respectful carers have been more needed. The demand for healthcare assistants has increased with work opportunities available for those who care for aged and disabled people in residential facilities, hospitals or their homes in both the public and private sectors.

NZTC’s qualifications will equip students with the skills needed to care for others on a professional or personal basis.

Offering a unique level of student support, NZTC has established systems in place which provide flexibility with online learning options, empowering students to balance their study with their work and life commitments.

NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox explained, “After years of research and learning from the health and wellbeing community, NZTC is honoured to now step in and support accessible, flexible, practical qualifications. The College is looking forward to welcoming students who have a heart to help others.”

NZTC’s Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications enable students to pathway into higher level study opportunities including degree options within the health sector.

February 2017First international marketing trip of 35th year

The New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) Business Development Manager is looking forward to meeting Educational Partners and prospective students in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Miri and Sibu in Malaysia, and in Manila in the Philippines.

“I will be joining education expos, visiting Educational Partners and also attending the Education New Zealand agent seminar and workshop in Manila on 10 March.”

It is Christopher’s first visit to the Philippines and he is looking forward to visiting a new country, culture and market.

Not only will he be sharing the benefits of studying an internationally recognised, NZQA approved qualification with NZTC, but also that the College is celebrating 35 years as a leader in early childhood teacher education in 2017.

Malaysia and the Philippines are emerging markets for NZTC and Christopher says the whole of the NZTC community can benefit from having greater student diversity.

“Having a diverse range of views on how different countries contribute to early childhood education in discussions is invaluable to the learning experience.”

When Christopher is not out promoting NZTC qualifications on his trip, he will most likely be enjoying the Southeast Asian cuisine.

High demand for early childhood teachers in NZEarly childhood teacher positions were one of the highest advertised jobs in New Zealand in 2016, according to employment website SEEK. The New Zealand Herald recently shared how advertised jobs for early childhood teachers increased nationwide by more than 76 percent, with an average salary of $58,711.

“Early childhood teachers are essential for educating our youth during their formative years. We predict there will be ongoing strong job ad growth on SEEK for these professionals as our nation continues to grow and we see more guardians returning to work and requiring care for their children during work hours,” said SEEK New Zealand general manager Janet Faulding.

Auckland early childhood centres in particular have flagged a significant teacher shortage as they struggle to find enough qualified teachers. Radio New Zealand shared the predicament of Early Childhood Council (ECC) president Theresa Dodd who

said, “I personally can account for the fact that I’ve turned away some enrolments because I haven’t been able to find staff, or the staff that I want, to fill the positions at my centre, and we’re definitely receiving feedback from the wider membership of the ECC about that issue as well.”

Christopher Handscomb sets off on the first international marketing trip of 2017 to Malaysia and the Philippines in March.

New Zealand judged best in the world

The institute recently released its 10th annual global Prosperity Index where it compared 104 country variables including traditional indicators like per capita gross domestic product and the number of people in full-time work, but also unique factors such as the number of secure internet servers a country has, and how well-rested people feel on a day-to-day basis.

The variables were split into nine sub-indexes to assist in the analysis including economic quality, business environment, governance, education, health, safety and security, personal freedom, social capital, and natural environment.

149 countries were considered with Norway taking the top spot for the last seven years. But 2016 heralded a new nation deemed to be the world’s most prosperous – New Zealand!

The Business Insider says, “New Zealand — officially the most prosperous country on earth. According to the Legatum Institute, New Zealand ranked top of both the social capital and economic quality sub-indexes, and 2nd for business environment and governance.”
