IntroductionDefiniton:

Fertigation is derived from the word "fertilizer" and “irrigation".

Fertigation system is a method of cultivation in which the provision of a complete fertilizer to crops is given in the form of a solution and delivered to the root zone through a drip irrigation system.

Basic Requirement

The basic requirement that are need in fertigation system are:

1. Green House

Green House : needed to control excess moisture, especially during the rainy season

Roof - must allow sunlight to pass through

Type of roofing materials - using transparent plastic

2. Irrigation system

Using the drip irrigation system.

Function: Flush and distribute or supply water and nutrient rooting zone into each polybeg.

3. Water supply and quality

Must use clean water and quality

Water quality is important to the success of this system

Eg: tap water, pool water, river water

pH value and optimum air EC - 6.5 5.5, <1.0 mS / cm

4.Adjust solution tools (pH and EC metre)

Use to determine the pH and EC of fertilizer solution and media are in optimum.

The concentration of fertilizers and media – depend on the plant that we have planted.

EC needs a range of 1.2 mS / cm - 3.8 mS / cm

5. The polybeg and media

Polybeg size: 20.3 cm x 40.6 cm.

The media that use in fertigation system:

Using the media that to replacing the soil functions.

Example: Cocopeat, rice husk, rootwool, pertile

Cocopeat and husk are widely used - cheap, light weight, high quality and easy to use.

6. Nutrient

N - Urea is well suited for injection in micro irrigation system. It is highly soluble and dissolves in non-ionic form

P -Application of phosphorus to irrigation water may cause precipitation of phosphate salts.

K -Application of K fertilizer does not cause any precipitation of salts.

Micro nutrients - Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, Mo could be used as micro nutrients in drip fertigation

Advantages More productive

Mobile plant

Make high-quality crops

No soil borne diseases

Can reduce the cost of management and operations

Use of water and fertilizer can be saved with the automatic control-nutrients can be given according to the growth stage

Clean and environmentally friendly

Can be planted at any time

Disadvantages High initial capital

High fertilizer costs and a lack of knowledge of steel.

Require media, temperature and humidity suitable

Depth knowledge about plants

Labor-intensive

Sustainable farm management

Require varieties that suit local weather

High risk of loss and

Need good quality water that

Catastrophic system damage and loss

Conclusion

In conclusion, fertigation system is efficient method applying fertilizers in which the irrigation system is used as the carrier and distributor of the crop nutrients. The combination of water and nutrient leads to an efficient use of both by the plant. The use of solid fully soluble fertilizers seems more economical in the first stages when fertigation is adopted, but the use of prepared clear liquid solutions is very convenient in other cases. The fertigation system is very suitable for commercial agriculture for maximize profit and yield.
