The URBAN SeRIeS

Sometimes style is as important as function. Your bike is a

personal statement, an expression of how you enjoy the sport. Our

urban bikes blend simple design, reliable function and, of course,

great looks for riders who want bikes as stylish as they are.

No ride should ever seem mundane. Any time you throw your leg

over the saddle, it’s a chance to have a good time. Whether you

are heading off for a ride with your friends, commuting to work

or just zipping down to the corner store for an errand, our urban

bikes are designed for action.

The Curbside, Dispatch and X:City all begin with custom-butted

and shaped Superlite aluminum tubing. We CNC-machine the

headtube and BB to relieve weight and help tune the ride. The

result is a lightweight, responsive frame that can stand up to the

rigors of daily use.

The only way to meet the demands of the city is with a bike built

around simplicity. We used simple, minimalist drivetrains with

most either opting for single speed (running fixie is an option) or

a planetary internal hub. Of course, there is a derailleur model

if you’d like one. And, while we haven’t come up with a miracle

cure for flat tires, you can rest assured your bike will be as reliable

as the sunrise.

X:CITY DUrban conditions are demanding and riding should always be enjoyable which is why we created this value-packed version of our X:City D. We introduced our SpeedBike™ line as a way to merge the best

in road bike performance with comfortable upright positioning.

Now you can have the light weight, exhilarating feeling of riding

a performance-oriented road bike in a position and posture

that suits you. Whether you want to get fit, are looking for a

reliable commuter or simply want a sporty around-town bike, the

SpeedBike™ is just the ticket.

The start point for the SpeedBikes™ is our proprietary F-Lite

7000-series aluminum tubing. We use it to build a frame that can

stand up to the rigors of hard commuting, long-distance touring

and energetic riding. Our design team took great care to create

a frame that would put riders in a comfortable and more upright

position, while still offering the crisp handling of a road bike.

Some models even include a carbon fiber fork and seatpost for

added vibration damping to lessen fatigue and improve handling.

While the road tires and snappy feel of the SpeedBikes™ reflect

traditional road performance, we make sure comfort is a top

priority. The SpeedBike™ saddle uses a dual-density foam base

to offer great support while maintaining a cushy feel. We include

a wide, flat bar mounted on an adjustable stem to give riders ideal

positioning. Stopping the bike are a pair of linear-pull brakes for

maximum control and the drivetrain uses wide-range gearing to

make going uphill as easy as it is going down.

With the SpeedBike™ you get exceptional comfort combined

If you have been to a bike shop recently, you have probably noticed that bi-

cycles have been divided into a multitude of specific categories. There are all

sorts of bikes on the showroom floor; so where does one start? Hybrid bikes

Fitness bikes, City Bikes, Comfort bikes, Commuter bikes, Flatfoot type bikes.

If you have ever asked yourself “When did shopping for a bicycle become so

darn complicated?” then the Café series was designed with you in mind.

The fact is, there are plenty of folks out there who are just looking for one

good bike that fits their busy lifestyle. You have a wide array of interests in

life, so you need a bike that adapts to them. You might look at bikes as a tool

towards health and fitness. After all, anytime is the right time to exercise. You

might look at a bike as simply a means to get around. There are always plenty

of places to go and people to see. You may even think about leaving the car

at home on a workday. And by the time the weekend comes, you’re always up

for a bit of fresh air, sunshine, and just plain fun. Whatever the situation, the

Café meets the demands of your unique lifestyle.

IDEAL BODY POSITION

When we set out to develop the Café series, we did a considerable amount of

market research. We started with the consumer focus groups and gave that

input to our engineering group with the clear goal of satisfying two priorities…

comfort and handling.

First and foremost, we focused on the body position of the rider. We knew

our Café customers would not want to be compromised in an aggressive,

stretched-out, competitive position. At the other extreme, we recognized

that today’s flat-foot-type comfort bikes were lacking in terms of climbing,

acceleration and maneuverability. Since Café bikes were created for riders

with broad styles and intended uses, we spent considerable time working to

achieve the ideal balanced seated position. Comfortable yet sporty, relaxed

yet retaining superb handling, Café bicycles possess as much ability as the

riders they are seeking.

Once we arrived at the ideal body position, we turned our focus to the

rider’s contact areas:

• Custom handlebar shape with mild sweep is easy on the wrists

• Aluminum pedals with rubber inserts enhance traction and

LIGHTWEIGHT, EFFICIENT & EASY TO USE

Reduced weight automatically translates to increased efficiency. By using

aluminum material wherever possible, the Café models are significantly lighter

than most so-called comfort bikes currently on the market.

You will find lightweight and corrosion-resistant aluminum employed on:

Frames & forks, Handlebars, Stems & seatposts, Crank & pedals, Wheelsets

(rotating mass is most important). Durable, smooth and efficient Shimano

Drivetrains are equipped on all models. Twist-type shifters are easy, intuitive,

and always let you know what gear you are in.

ACCESSORIZED

Finally, we wanted to make sure the bikes were outfitted to the gills. All Café

bikes feature: Puncture-resistant tires, Aluminum kickstand, Lightweight

aluminum cup holder, Safety bell. The Café Deluxe models take it a step

further with these extras: Ultra-light aluminum rear carrier, Removable clip-on

saddle bag, Lightweight fenders to ward off road debris.

their standards for quality and excellence. For years, Felt has offered some

of the most unique design themes along with the highest quality frames and

components in the bicycle world. And for 2009 Felt has delivered the most

exciting cruiser lineup in our history.

FRAMES

FORMING

Felt utilizes one of the most sophisticated tube-forming processes in the

industry: Hydroform technology. Hydroforming is a process that utilizes highly

pressurized liquid (usually oil) to blow-up or expand a tube from the inside

out. A one-piece tube is contained externally by a mold representing the final

outer shape. This state-of-the-art forming process allows Felt to design highly

complex shapes that are both larger in size and larger in transition (extreme

tapers), giving the bicycle both an amazing look and unique identity.

MATERIALS

Within our 2009 lineup, you will find both Steel and Aluminum framesets,

providing different design and ride characteristics, while satisfying varied

tastes and budgets alike.

Aluminum—The material of choice for riders who desire reduced weight as

well as max corrosion resistance, Felt exclusive “Cruiselite” rust-free and

lightweight 6061 aluminum frame tubing is found on select bike models.

Steel—Felt utilizes 100% premium hi-tensile steel, offering an affordable

alternative to aluminum.

COMPONENTS

When outfitting our cruisers, Felt pushes the envelope with component

design. We refuse to cut corners by using generic, off-the-shelf parts. Every

component on every bike we sell is either fully-designed in house, or has the

“Felt touch” on it. Here are a few examples of the premium Felt-exclusive

parts and accessories you’ll find within the line:

Rims—Felt uses super-wide 50mm aluminum rims on many models, as well

as extra wide 32mm rims used on other models. These custom rims deliver

extra strength, added stability, and plenty of style.

Tires—Felt offers two sizes of our famous “Brick” tire designs. Our 24” x

3.0” Thick Brick offers a stouter look, plus a built-in suspension feel, while

maintaining an almost identical outside diameter of a traditional 26” tire. For

bikes calling for more classic styling, we employ the traditional 26” x 2.125”

size Quick Brick. When mounted to our exclusive wider-than-normal rims,

both Brick tires end up with an increased width after inflation, so you win with

a wider and more stable feel.

Front Hubs—Many Felt cruisers are specified with custom machined

aluminum front hubs, adding to the look, feel and quality of our wheelsets.

Our own Felt “Double 5-Star” oversized aluminum hub sets the standard for

attitude while enhancing wheel strength and stability. And when we need a

smaller hub for just the right look, our machined “4-Window” hub meets the

need.

Spokes—All Felt cruisers feature rust-resistant stainless steel spokes. Many

bike models take it a step further with heavy-duty 12-gauge spokes for added

strength, durability and style.

Grips/Shifters—Felt uses custom grips on every one of our bikes, including

grips to specifically fit Shimano Nexus twist-type shifters. Ladies models get

an extra design touch with embossed vinyl sleeves and color-coordinated

stitching.

Other custom features you’ll find sprinkled throughout our line include

double-crown forks, semi-integrated headsets, CNC-machined aluminum

chain wheels, model-specific valve caps, license plates, serialized limited-

edition badges, saddle bags and custom saddle cover embossing designs.

hurley’s world-class design team partnered with Felt Bicycles to create a limited-edition cruiser capturing the essence of hurley surf style and culture. hurley’s most recognized and sought-after “Puerto Rico” plaid, popularized on surf trunks worn by the likes of pro surfer Rob Machado, has inspired the new hurley “PR” cruiser. To best achieve the signature Puerto Rico plaid look, Felt turned to a unique and labor-intensive decal process which enables the decal to wrap around and adhere to complex curves such as the rims and fenders. To further enhance the bike’s uniqueness, each bike will be serialized with a riveted, stamped aluminum “limited edition” badge. The young sport of motocross was blown away when the hurricane arrived in 1976 and won races in a way the sport had never before seen. The iconic lightning bolts became a symbol of relentless determination and domination around the world. For big boys who love all things retro or just want to feel like a kid again, hot Wheels™ has teamed up with Felt to introduce the “Sixty-8”, a celebration of hot Wheels’ 40th anniversary. With a renegade rat rod inspired look, the design team was determined to create a unique, aggressive cruiser reflective of the culture from which it was modeled. The traditional built-in kickstand and chainguard were the first things to go. The usual coaster brake hub was replaced by a custom 3-speed cassette version featuring CNC compact cassette cogs, and an oversized 14mm hollow axle. The truly unique design includes classic retro CA-style hot Wheels™ license plates, removable moto-style triangle kickstand, and bolt-on aluminum frame plates. Plastered with flat-track style graphics and stamped with an individually-numbered limited edition badge, each bike is a true collector’s item.
