Graduate Program Funding

Scholarships for graduate/professional study in the US Graduate school applicants should check the websites of the the universities and degree programs of

interest about financial support--this is where the majority of graduate students will find funding (or

not, depending on the norms for that area of graduate study). If you are not a US citizen, see if your

country’s ministry for education (or equivalent) has any scholarships or fellowships for graduate study.

Typically applications for external fellowship support are made around the time of your graduate

program applications, unless otherwise noted. In addition to general university-based support, below

are selected examples for different fields or institutions offering scholarships for specific programs:

Recipients are selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need, and there are no

American Meteorological Society Graduate Fellowships

American Political Science Association Minority Fellowships

Description : Provides support for minority students applying to enter a doctoral program in political

science, with an interest in teaching and research.

Eligibility: U.S. citizens and one of the following racial/ethnic minority groups: African Americans,

graduates, or enrolled in a master's program and applying for a doctorate in political science.

American Chemical Society Scholarships

Description: awards renewable scholarships of up to $5,000 to underrepresented minority students

who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields, such as environmental science,

toxicology, and chemical technology. To be considered for an ACS Scholarship, candidates must be

African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American; U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and

full-time students at a high school or accredited college, university, or community college. In addition,

candidates must demonstrate high academic achievement in chemistry or science (with a GPA of 3.o

or better), as well as financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

form and the Student Aid Report form. Candidates should either be majoring in or intending to major

in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a chemically-related science or pursuing or

intending to pursue a degree in chemical technology, and should be planning careers in the chemical

sciences.
