St. Paul: The BodySt. Paul: The Body

St. Paul speaks of the importance of the body in his epistles.

“Glorify God in your body.”-1 Cor. 6:20 We are to treat our bodies with respect, as a

Temple of the Holy Spirit. “The body, however, is not for immorality, but for

the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.”-1 Cor. 6:13

“Do you not know that the runners in the stadium all run in the race, but only one wins the prize? Run so as to win. Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. Thus I do not run aimlessly; I don not fight as if I were shadowboxing. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should not be disqualified.”-I Cor. 9:24-27

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.”- Heb. 12:1-2
