Event Location:

Parker University is a chiropractic and medical wellness college located off of southbound I-35, two exits south of LBJ (I-635) in Dallas.

Street address - 2540 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75229

This is a small campus experience with slight walking distances between buildings.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes and bring a water bottle with you to be prepared for the August heat.

The cost to attend is $7.00 and INCLUDES a bag, select goodies, a light breakfast, and a box lunch

from Jason's Deli.

After you check in at registration, you’ll be able to

New This Year! Rising Stars Event Come kick off your older girl experience at our inaugural “Rising Stars” event! Learn about our Girl Scout Leadership Institute and all the exciting, valuable, and unique programming opportunities that are only available for our older Girl Scouts! Kickoff is one of the most popular events of the season, and this year we’re inviting girls entering grades 8 and up to show them why. During this full-day event girls will get an exclusive first look at the brand new badges, journeys, and programs that have been developed just for older girls. Girls will also get to interact with the volunteers and program partners that will be offering workshops, journeys in a day programs, and our brand new Girl Scout clubs! Once we’ve shown them what we have to offer, girls will be invited to speak up and share their ideas with our council’s CEO Jennifer Bartkowski. Girls will also have fun throughout the day as we get creative with sweet treats, play interactive games, check out the new merchandise in the GSNETX shop and the new cookie reward options. Save the Dates! Older Girl Programming for Fall 2018: 10/6 Think Like an Engineer: Journey in a Day: Spend the day on the University of North Texas campus working

with members from the Society of Women Engineers to earn the brand new “Think Like an Engineer” journey for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors!

10/7 Cookie Box Creations Orientation: Team up with women architects and engineers in a design contest to turn empty GS cookie boxes into free-standing themed structures! The program runs from orientation in October through the final build in the spring.

10/13 Network & Etiquette: How do I connect with professional women to explore career opportunities? Which fork is for dessert? How do I signal I am done eating? You’ll discover key interview techniques, how to dress for success, and ways to showcase your skills. Participating in this unique GSLI experience gives you the opportunity to attend the Women of Distinction Luncheon at no cost!

Everything you need to know about the troop formation process - Get the newest information on forming troops, growing current troops, working with new leaders and navigating the online registration system! This course is great for Troop Organizers, SU Recruiters, Registrars and Service Unit Managers.

TR607: SU Cookie Coordinator - ROOKIE

This class is ONLY for Rookie SU Cookie Coordinators who have served in the role 0-1 years AND who have served as a Troop Cookie Manager for at least 1 year of the last 5 years. Veteran SU Cookie Coordinators or coordinators who have served in the role for 2 years or more can join us in BLOCK 2 or at another more in-depth training at GSNETX Service Centers in September.

SU Cookie Coordinator Official Training for Rookie SUCCs only – Attend Cookie Coordinator Training at Kick-off and you are not required to attend again in September – yay! Come learn key info you need for the 2019 Cookie Program including important updates, rewards, key dates and more! Some key cookie materials like the TCM Guide will not be finalized until September, but this class will provide all pertinent updates for Cookie Coordinators to begin preparing for the 2019 program. Please note, that training in September normally lasts 2-3 hours and SUCC training offered at Kickoff is an abbreviated, hybrid training that is very fast paced and information heavy. If your learning style may prevent you from feeling successful in this accelerated session, you are still welcome to attend if you choose, however we suggest you also consider joining us in September.

TR608: SU Adult Recognitions Specialist

For NEW SU Adult Recognitions Specialists.

Information is geared toward the new service unit ARS on how to successfully track and process nominations, how to read your reports, and how to effectively communicate to both leaders and parents.

TR610: SU Event Coordinator

For new SU Event Coordinators or volunteers who help plan large-scale events.

TR610: SU Team Event Coordinator - Designed for team members who organize and coordinate Service Unit events for troops. This training will keep your life simple by helping you: • Identify all the available resources • Plan according to your SU’s specific needs • Understand how to plan according to the GSLE • Operate within GSNETX standards and guidelines • Design effective promotion and marketing materials • Connect with other SUECs and address any additional questions or concerns you have!

ALL SU team members and troop leaders; anyone who is concerned about presenting Girl Scouts in the best possible light in the community and on social media.

Become an extension of the GSNETX marketing team and a PR ambassador for your troop or Service Unit. Learn how to debunk myths and share the right messages about Girl Scouts. Discover how you can connect with local media, use your personal communication tools like personal blogs, social media and more to tell your “why” story as you become a vocal champion for girls. Learn about our fall PR campaign for membership and the resources available to you. Take a peek at our annual PR calendar so you know the hot topics to share with your SU members. Spend time planning with peers about how to use your SU and troop Facebook and/or web pages to promote Girl Scouts within national brand standards. Elevating the Outdoor Leadership Experience

The Outdoor Leadership experience is a critical part of Girl Scouts. We also know from surveys that camping for your girls is important to YOU. Robotics Team Formations

Troop leaders, volunteers, or parents who want to learn more about forming their own robotics team. Anyone with questions about the new robotics badges for Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors.

STEM Center staff will discuss how to set up a robotics team with your troop and answer any questions you may have. We offer different robotics programs for the different Girl Scout levels, from Daisy’s, Brownies, Juniors and now Cadettes! 'VEX', 'Lego Robotics', or 'First Robotics' teams are all possibilities! If you are unsure about registering a team for robotics, but still want to expose your girls to robotics, come learn about the different technology resources that are available at the STEM Center of Excellence and how they are used for badge-earning programs. We will also briefly discuss the new robotics badges for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors and share ideas on how you can bring robotics to your troop meetings. Consider also registering for the Play with Our Robots! Session in Block 3 so that you can see and touch and experience the different robot kits.

TR100: Girl Scouts to a T – New Leader Welcome

Brand new Girl Scout Troop Leaders are invited to join us for a warm welcome. You will receive information and resources to guide you in your first several weeks as a Troop Leader or Co Leader.

DOUBLE BLOCK 2 & 3 - Receive important Troop Leader resources while you experience the time tested "6 Parts of a Girl Scout Meeting." You will learn these crucial elements for a great start with your troop: - how to create Troop structure - how to conduct a parent meeting and seek parent engagement, - how to establish troop dues and understand Troop Finances New troop leaders in 2018-2019 are required to take this training, and you need this information in the first 30 days - so don't wait! All troop leaders and co leaders are encouraged to attend. Do not select a Block 3 option as this class will run over both.

TR200: GSLE 3 - 4- 5

For all volunteers who want a better handle on executing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, 3 Processes, 4 Pillars, and 5 Outcomes.

DOUBLE BLOCK 2 & 3 - By the end of the course, you’ll know what the five outcomes and three processes are, why they’re an integral piece of the Girl Scout experience, and how they’re measured and assessed. The workshop will focus on equipping volunteers with not only this knowledge, but also immediate skills that they can begin implementing with girls immediately through a hands-on and collaborative experience. Do not select a Block 3 option as this class will run over both.

TR201: Take Action Projects

For any adult working with troops who is helping organize Take Action Projects.

DOUBLE BLOCK 2 & 3 - Take Action Projects (a.k.a. TAPs) are an important part of everyone’s Girl Scout experience. Because TAPs launch a girl’s curiosities, concerns, and sense of how-the-world-should-be into action that makes her community a better place - they build leadership skills, self-confidence, and sense of team/community! In this course we will find ways to help your girls develop TAPs that genuinely interest them, are Girl Led, techniques you can use to help build girl confidence in your girls' ability to identify and solve community problems, and ways to enjoy the process (for you and the girls both). Do not select a Block 3 option as this class will run over both.

TR604: SU School Liaison

School Liaisons, troop leaders, parents, and volunteers who want to grow Girl Scouts in your community!

Join us as we share best practices and simple ideas for increasing membership at your school. Plus, we'll cover strategies on how to confidently recruit new parents to start their own troop! Some of what you'll learn: • Best practices and simple ideas for growing your troop. • Tools and techniques you need to ask other parents to "take the lead like a Girl Scout" and start their own troop! • We will also provide you with an exclusive sneak peak of new recruitment tools - including new leader experience folders, troop formation best practices, recruitment giveaways, Add-a-Friend campaigns, and more!

TR607: SU Cookie Coordinator - VETERAN

This class is ONLY for Veteran SU Cookie Coordinators who have served in the role at least 2 years. New SU Cookie Coordinators or coordinators who have served in the role for 1 year or less can join us in BLOCK 1 or at another more in-depth training at GSNETX Service Centers in September.

SU Cookie Coordinator Official Training for returning Veteran SUCCs only – Attend Cookie Coordinator Training at Kick-off and you are not required to attend again in September – yay! Come learn all the key info you need for the 2019 Cookie Program including important updates, rewards, key dates and more! Some key cookie materials like the TCM Guide will not be finalized until September, but this class will provide all pertinent updates for Cookie Coordinators to begin preparing for the 2019 program. Please note, that training in September normally lasts 2-3 hours and SUCC training offered at Kickoff is an abbreviated, hybrid training that is very fast paced and information heavy. If your learning style may prevent you from feeling successful in this accelerated session, you are still welcome to attend if you choose, however we suggest you also consider joining us in September.

TR609: SU Family Partnership Coordinator

For SU Family Partnership Coordinators, as well anyone else interested in being a fundraising ambassador. SU Managers welcome.

This class is designed to coach SU team members and other GS volunteers to be G.I.R.L. ambassadors who raise money for Girl Scouts through the family partnership campaign. Course content includes an introduction to fundraising and information on how to run a successful Family Partnership Giving Campaign for your Service Unit. This year, there’s an exciting new opportunity with North Texas Giving Day! After attending this class, you will be equipped to be a G.I.R.L. ambassador to raise money in your own community. You will also know the do’s and don’ts of Service Unit and Troop Fundraising and know the resources available to you and your team for a successful campaign.

TR609: SU Treasurer

For SU Team Members handling finances.

This course is designed to help SU team members who are responsible for SU finances and assisting troops with managing their resources wisely. Some of the topics will be: helping troops and parents apply for financial assistance, setting up and changing bank accounts, money earning activities, and Cookie Program finances.

Volunteer Toolkit - the Ultimate Time Management Tool for Leaders!

Any volunteer who has not yet utilized their Volunteer Toolkit for meeting planning and troop communication.

Learn how to take the stress out of planning and put some fun back into your year! During this hands-on session leaders are invited to dive deeper into VTK and learn how it can put back hours into your weekly schedule - allowing for more fun, in-the-moment memories with your troop. *** IMPORTANT *** Volunteers MUST be able to

This goal of this session is to share ideas and tools to help you create and sustain the most inclusive troops, service units, and Girl Scout experiences. During this course we will discuss varying types of identities and how to best support all Girl Scouts regardless of their differences. We will also share tips on how to embrace and promote differences among Girl Scouts, emphasizing how difference is vital to development and success. Join us for a conversation on how to build inclusive spaces for our Girl Scouts.

Jumpstart for STEM Preview

Troop leaders who are interested in testing a digital assistant for an easier pathway to doing STEM badges with their troops.

To be competitive in the global market, over the next decade the U.S. will need an astounding 1 million more STEM professionals than it is on track to produce. Where will they come from? Anyone who was in the Starting Robotics session and would like to stay and play with our robotics kits should take this class. Anyone who wasn't in that session, but still has an interest in seeing and touching the kits is welcome to join us in block 3.

Lego WeDo Robots out for use. You will learn how to design and program a robot in minutes! (Daisy - Brownie) These robots are used for FIRST Lego League Junior. Lego EV3 Mindstorm Robots out for use. You will learn how these robots can be used. (Junior - Cadette) These robots are used for FIRST Lego League. VEX IQ Robots out for use. You will learn how to drive a robot to accomplish special tasks. (Brownie - Cadette) These robots are used for the VEX IQ Challenge.
