King Richard & Battle of Bosworth in 1485
King Richard III was king for only 2 years (1483- 1485) and was the last English king to die in battle. This was at Bosworth Field, only a few miles from the village of Market Bosworth where one of our schools, the Dixie, is located. Richard’s dead body was carried across the back of a horse to Leicester, where it was displayed for 2 days before being buried in the church of the Grey Friars. The grave was ‘lost’ for 512 years until found in August 2012, and his skeleton exhumed.
