What Gender are you?

I asked ten people to fill out aquestionnaire that had seen the bondfilm Casino Royale. From these results

it can be seen that there is a cleardivide between both genders thereforethe appeal is equal however there maybe different factors that are drawing inthese audiences. In the next couple ofquestions I will be able to identify what

these features may be.

Amongst these ten people it is evidentthat the age range is lower and seems tobe focused from 16-30 year olds.

Whether it is because of the actors, thelocations or other features liketechnology, there seems to be aparticular focus. I shall therefore narrowdown the questions as to what they

specifically like about Casino Royale.

I listed nine characteristics that could beassociated with Bond and let theparticipants circle as many as they likedtherefore there are multiple answers. The

top responses were Intelligence, Heroand Womaniser telling me that in all ofthe films Bond is portrayed in the sameway and this film is no different.However it is interesting that thecharacteristic Vulnerable was not choseneven once, though the director wanted toshow his fresh rooky side and the painwhen Vesper dies.

Which Location do you prefer?I then proceeded to list eight differentlocations that were featured in the filmand learnt which was popular.

It turned out that filming in locationssuch as London and the Bahamas were

ideal, in feedback the majorityresponded saying they liked seeinglandmarks so the films seemed real asopposed to a random office building orcar park.

It is also important that they liked themain location which was the casinoitself. The film wouldnt have worked ifthe audience didnt think this was aninteresting place to base the film.

Are special Effects essential to a Bondfilm?

There was a divide within the feedbackabout effects. Generally there are almostalways special effects in the films and in

fact in the previous Bond film, Dieanother Day, they were criticised for theamount that they used and therefore inCasino Royale they tried to strip back tothe basics.

However they do use massive stunts

such as the car roll when Bond chasesafter Vesper and in the ending in Venicewhen the building is sinking into thecanal.

Is Violence essential to a Bond film?

The dominant answer was that yes

violence is essential but when lookingat the data it was apparent that

females tended to put no and all themales also put yes.

This indicates that one of the mainreasons males watch James Bond is forthe fighting and chase scenes whereaswomen watch for a different escapismreason.

For this feedback I asked the participantsto rate each gadget, 5 being the best and 0being the worst.

The top rated out of the list were Bondssignature gun, Aston Martin, Detonator

and tracking device. Coincidently, thegadgets just listed were the only onesfeatured in the film leaving behindridiculous and unrealistic gadgets such asthe invisible car and a shattering ring.However other trade mark gadgets were

still featured such as Sony Ericsson and hisOmega watch.

Interestingly Aston Martin which scoredthe highest out of 50 had lots of campaignsbefore the release of Casino Royale and alsoa car display was shown at the London

premiere.

The reason I asked this question is

because in Casino Royale they avoidedcatchphrases and even mimicked themas they date the film and make it seemtacky; this was also evident in the

feedback.Also another reason why there are nocatchphrases is because Bond is a new007 and therefore doesnt have any traitsyet.

People did comment however saying thatthe catchphrases are like the guns, carsand women; it makes ups the film and aconvention that goes along with it nicely.
