Question 1

It was important for us to ask this question, to see if the audience thought the trailer was conventional to the horror genre. The majority of the audience agreed that it was conventional; this means that our narrative and technical elements must be clear enough for the audience to see that it is a horror film.

Question 2

I also wanted to know why they thought it was conventional or why they didn’t. From these responses they feel that the sound was effective because it made the atmosphere tense which is a convention for the horror genre. They also thought that the low key lighting was effective and made the trailer conventional to the horror genre. It is important for us to know what we did well because we are able to keep these elements and expand on them.

Question 3

When looking at the trailer, I wanted to audience to rate the elements which they thought were the most successful and the ones which they thought were less successful. For example, from looking at the results, sound got the highest number for being most effective. They then thought that the editing was also effective. The responses said that the costume was the least successful of the elements. From this, we are able to see what the audience enjoyed most.

Question 4

We wanted to know why the audience ranked these elements in the order they did. For example, some responses thought the camerawork and sound was effective to the genre. However, some think that the lighting is too dark in places and they cant see what is happening in the scene. This is important for us to know so we can re shoot these scenes and ensure the lighting is slightly more lighter so that the audience are clearly able to see what is happening in every scene.

Question 5

It is important to know whether the trailer relates to the target audience because if it doesn’t we know that the trailer won’t be successful. Once again, the majority of the responses believed that the trailer does relate to the target audience.

Question 6

As we made a film trailer, we wanted to know if the audience saw the trailer would they go and see the full film. The majority said yes with 3 people responding with a maybe. This is successful because the people who said maybe may not enjoy watching horror films.

Question 7

We wanted to know why they said yes, no or maybe. The people who said they would watch it said they would because it looks tense, gripping and interesting. They also want to find out what happens in the film; this is important because we purposely left the trailer on a cliff-hanger to draw the audience into wanting to watch more. The people who said maybe were not fans of horror films but they may go with some friends.

Question 8

Lastly, we wanted to know if there was anything which they would want to improve; this means that we can take their points into consideration and maybe make the changes so that the trailer relates to the audience. Some points are to change the font of the writing to make it look more professional. They also think that the lighting can be too dark in places. From this I am able to look back at the trailer and maybe make some of the improvements.

Individual Response

It is important to look at individual responses as well as an overview of all the responses. This way we are able to see what one person thinks about the trailer. From looking at respondent number 3, we are able to see that they enjoyed the trailer, thought it was conventional and might go and watch the film if they were with their friends. I can also see how they rated each element separately; for example they rated costume as the least effective and editing as the most.
