3 types of indicators AR wants to collect

Sustainable Intensification IndicatorsProgram-wide, monitor the impact of AR on the 5 dimensions of sustainable

intensification… More on this tomorrow!!

Feed the Future IndicatorsProgram-wide and collected across all the FtF programs as USAID requirement, monitor the attainment of the broad FtF goals in Sub-Saharan Africa

Ad-hoc indicatorsAt the discretion of every project and even of every research team. It is not a

requirement but if there are some specific aspects that the research teams believe are useful to track, the PMMT offers that possibility

When to collect them

When to collect them: USAID requires the data sharing once per year, but the numbers are recorder by seasons, therefore it would be optimal to enter them in the PMMT twice a year (after each season).

When are they due:Every year at the beginning of October! This is a strict deadline set by USAID

Targets:While compiling the data from the current season the researchers are asked to provide targets for the next season, which will then be compared with the actual numbers that will be achieved. Whenever the targets differ from the actual numbers by more than 10%, researchers are required to submit a brief explanation of the discrepancy.

FtF indicators can be collected in 2 ways:

• Preferred way: directly through the Project Mapping and Monitoring Tool (PMMT)

• If no/bad internet connection: Through the Excel household and community templates first, and then inputted into the PMMT once a good connection is available.

…We will cover both methods during this training!

Some of you already collected this information during the past season. Anyone wants to share his experience?• Which indicators were particularly difficult to report?• How did you solve the difficulties?• How to communicate effectively with the rest of the

teams in order to avoid collecting the same information multiple times?

• How to provide meaningful narratives for discrepancies between targets and actual outcomes
