Nobles and Ladies,
I was created a Master Mason on April 5, 1979 with BrothersAlton & Delvin Palmer. I went through Scottish Rite withmy father Merle K opren, John Helms, Delvin & AltonPalmer and Herman VanDenBerg. Being a f airly newmarried person, with our first child due in May, I didn’t haveenough funds to become a Shriner with them in the F allCeremonial. I drove semi for Nobel Emmett P almer andsaved up enough mone y to join the Shrine in the wintersession. I called Noble Truman Quaal to ask if he would bethe first line signer on my petition, quietly without lettingmy fellows brothers from up North know that I was joining.Lady Cindy and I borrowed my parents’ car to go to Rapid
City to join the Naja Shrine on Nov. 19, 1979. During my initiation, Illustrious PotentateCharles Linander asked us to donate a thousand dollars to the hospital, I didn’t have athousand dollars and I rolled of f my bed. To the Nobles that joined the Shrine in theHot Sands you will relate to these events.
In November 1979, Lady Cindy and I joined Fairview Chapter 166, Order of the EasternStar and we have been Past Patron & Past Matron. Living 60 miles from the NorthDakota border and 70 from the Montana border I’m proud to be a member and P astPresident of the West River Shrine Unit, which consists of Shriners from Naja, Yelduz, and El Zagel. Our youngest son Randy, is also a Past President and our oldest son Wadeis the current President.
I have been the Master of P asque Lodge 214. Our sons Wade & Randy are also P astMasters of the lodge. I hope that we can continue to keep the family legacy going strongin our family as our boys are fourth generation Masons & Shriners.
I have been actively involved in our community. I served 10 years on the Perkins CountyASCS Board and 6 years as a Perkins County Commissioner. I chose not to run a secondterm as I was thrilled to promote my time to the Naja Shrine after being appointed in2006 as Marshal by Noble Alton Palmer. I’m also past president of Homme LutheranChurch.
We, like any parents or grandparents, are v ery Proud of our sons and their f amilies.Wade, Jenny and Braden, Randy, Heidi, and Colt, Zoey and Maverick, I thank you eachfor your love and support all these years. I also thank my brother Ross & Bev and familyand sister in law Deanna & Ardel and family for being there for us at home and w orkthe last 6 years as we couldn’t have left our jobs without your support!
To the Past Potentates, thank you all for your encouragement and support; each of youwill be a Hard Act to follow! I am looking forward to our year with Hooking up for theLove of a Child! Our first commitment is our Masonic Brothers and remembering ourObligations to Each other and our second commitment is our Shriners Obligations tosupporting our Shriner Children and Hospital.
I have chosen an Ambassador from each unit and club . Since I live so far from theShrine club I would like these ambassadors to keep the communications open betweenNaja Shrine, Divan and the Nobles.
I am excited about all the events planned for the year, The Spring Ceremonial/ShrinersBall will be combined the week end of June 7 & 8 at the Lodge of Deadw ood. I amhoping this date w orks for everyone including ranchers that can’ t get away duringlambing and calving.
Thank you to all Nobles for electing me as your Potentate for 2013. I am lookingforward to working with all of you and up to the challenge.
Yours in the Faith, Willis Kopren

I am excited to tell you about my projects forthis year! For those that have been aroundNoble Willis and I over the years know that wedefinitely have our Guardian Angels watchingover us.
My first project is the Childrenʼs MiracleNetwork. We had two preemie grandsons: Ray,born June of 2000 weighing 1 lb 9 oz andBraden, born Nov. 5, 2001 weighing 1 lb. 11 oz.Braden is a healthy 11 year old. The CMN didso much for our family and I want to thank themfor all they do for so many families.
My second project is the Daughters of the Nile blanket fund. Our granddaughter Zoey receiveda blanket at the Hospital day and she was thrilled. I appreciate all that the Daughters of the Nile doby putting a smile on childrenʼs faces.
My bracelet charm this year is the Guardian Angel. I am a spoon and Christmas ornamentcollector so we will also have them to sell. I also will be having the divan/ambassador ladies holdinga 50/50 drawing at each of your meetings to help raise money for both of these projects. Pleaseconsider purchasing a charm, spoon, or ornament or buy some tickets.
I am looking forward to “Hooking up for the Love of a Child” this year!
Greetings from
Lady Cindy

KidsHoliday Party
The Naja Shrine held their annual F amily HolidayMovie/Christmas Party Day on December 8 at the Rapid CityShrine Club. There was a fantastic turnout with about 75kids and 35 adults. The party started of f with a lunch ofhotdogs, sloppy joes, chips, carrots, cookies, and punch. After feasting, some of the kids grabbed spots on the floor ,but others remained in their chairs for the feature mo vie,“Arthur Christmas.” During the movie, fresh popcorn waspopped and handed out to all. From the round of applauseat the end I think everyone enjoyed it. Finally, Santa Clausmade an appearance just as things were wrapping up. Heand his helper (elf/Potentate Case y Derflinger) passed outcandy-filled candy canes to all the kids. It was a great event!

Once again I have the honor of serving the nobilityand ladies of the Naja Shrine. This will be
another good year, as they have been in the past. I ranacross an article in the Mt. Rushmore Lodge #220news letter titled “Somebody, Everybody, Anybody,Nobody, and Someone Else.” This got me to thinkingabout our beloved Shrine – where somebody is alwaysdoing something good for adults and children. I guess
it’s our Masonic nature to help someone when the yask, without giving it any additional thought. Now, ifeveryone pitches in then we w ouldn’t have anyoneasking us to do someone else’s work. There is an oldsaying, “Everybody has to be somewhere.” So, I guesseverybody is important. Do you agree?
See you next issue Nobles, and everybody get to work!
So long and God Bless

Parade of Lights

Mt. Rushmore #220 Senior Deacon Zac Pengra headedup the b uilding of the float which w as done out atTrentdaddy's Repair. A big thank you to Trent for theuse of his shop so we had a place to work inside! Thosewho assisted in building the float or riding in the paradewere Lodge #220 Brothers Zac Pengra, Trent ”Flem”Sheeder, Lee “Harley” Mai, Steve “Otis” Hendrickson,Cody “Klem” Nelson, Joel “Katchup” Stephens,Howard “Giddy” Mehringer, Tom “Squeeky” Huwe andWalt Meltz (Dave's brother).
The float had twenty eight strings ofwhite lights plus se veral clusters ofcolored lights on it. It also had a powerfulsound system that played Christmasmusic as we went down the parade route.Brother Carl Pengra donated the use ofhis pickup to pull the float. Also a bigthank you to the Provost unit for lettingus borrow their big Naja Fez as the showpiece of the display.
A good time was had by all!
