parents of children who are in preparation for making theirFirst Communion in the Spring. Also, on Saturday, Febru-ary 11th there will be a Rite of Welcoming Mass with a Chil-drens Meeting beginning with the 5:00pm Mass and end-ing at 7:30pm in the Multi-purpose room.

My grandson went to Mass and had religious instruction every week. His parents were practicing Catholics, and Im sure he was tauthat missing Mass and not following Catholic teaching are serious sins. Hes now 25, doesnt go to Mass, and lives with his girlfrienHe honestly doesnt think hes doing anything wrong, and my friends tell me this is common in that generation. Why doesnt his generation take Catholic teaching seriously as my generation did?

They just dont get it. Its not that your grandson has completely forgotten what his Church and his parents taught him, but look at his experiencand the experience of many other 25-year olds. He has thrown away his Catholic faith and the commandments, but the sun hasnt fallen on hishead, a pretty girl has moved in with him, and another weekend is coming up!

Trouble is, next year hell be 26. He and his world will be losing a pagan paradise that works only for those have health, looks, money and you

What he was taught is still with him somewhere. He is baptized a child of God. His faith may seem to who have flown away, but it may not hav

God gave him faith through baptism, and Gods gifts are forever-if and when your grandson chooses to accept them, theyll be there.Keep loving and praying for your grandson. Keep celebrating how real and more real your faith is to you. Hell see that. Surely, he already do

OVERNIGHT SHELTEROVERNIGHT SHELTEROVERNIGHT SHELTEROVERNIGHT SHELTERSt. Martin de Porres will once again feed the homeless at the coldweather shelters at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception andCentral Presbyterian on Monday, February 6th.

There are three ways to help: prepare food (we provide recipes),serve the food at the shelters (only requires about 3 hours, usuallyhome between 8:30 & 9:00pm), stay overnight until 6:30am (safeatmosphere with private sleeping quarters). We have the most diffi-culty finding overnight volunteers, but it is really easy duty. Webreak the night up into watches, and since guests sleep between 9pm and 5:30am, there is plenty of quiet time to catch up on reading,

paperwork, etc. The more volunteers we have, the more sleep weget!

We try to carpool from St. Andrew and leave by 5:15pm, or you canmeet us downtown at the shelter. Eileen (Helena) Nelson will onceagain be coordinating the volunteers. Thanks Eileen!

Please e-mail [email protected] for more informa-tion, or call the parish office.
