Fairport, New York, is very familiar with that miracle in thescriptures but he didn't expect to see it repeated in his ownlife.

Last Sunday, Mark Lillie, one of the coordinators for the HaitiCollection Site at Risen Christ , updated the congregationon the progress of the collections as the worshipers couldvisually see the donations growing around them in thesanctuary. After the service, Mark Barbero, the owner ofDebbie Supply Inc, a 53-year-old family owned andoperated hardware store, asked what else he could do tohelp with the collection. Debbie Supply is already acollection site for the community. They are also donating thepallets and the use of a fork lift to load the shipping containerfrom Orphan Grain Train. Mark learned that they neededtools in Haiti to help dig through the rubble (the Haitians have been doing this by hand)and decided that since he owned a hardware store, and tools were his business, hecould donate some tools.

On Sunday evening, he poured though the stock catalog from which he orders suppliesfor his store, looking for tools and items that could be used to help with the recoveryefforts, or to start to rebuilding homes. At 9:30 p.m. Mark emailed the completed orderform, along with a note to a long time friend Damien (who was the sales rep atBostwick-Braun), telling him that this was a special rush order and would go into theHaiti collection container.

At six a.m. the next morning, Mark checked his e-mailbefore going to work and found a reply from Damien. He told Mark that Bostwick-Braun would match hisorder and send him double of what he had ordered! ByTuesday a good portion of the order had arrived andthe rest would be delivered before the final collectionday, this Sunday, February 28th, and in time to place itbefore the altar at church with the other donations thatwere dropped off this week.

St. John's Cancer Victim and Family Needs Helpwith Medical BillsRequest from Pastor William Stroup, St. John's Lutheran Church, Algonquin We are working with a member family in desperate needof financial help. Dan (43 years old), and his wife Susan, have one son. In 1996, at the age of 30, Dan wasdiagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He wentthrough standard rounds of radiation treatment at thetime and everything was fine for many years. A yearlater, in 1997, they found out that Susan also had a braintumor. Susan went through an 11 ½ hour surgery andthey removed only ½ of her tumor. As of this writing,Susan is in stable condition. Dan, on the other hand is adifferent story.

In 2001 Dan started to have grand mal seizures. This led to him getting maxed out onmany different medications. In 2005 Dan was diagnosed with a grade IV Glioblastoma. He was told that this is a very aggressive cancer and that he had already received themax dosage of radiation a person can receive in their lifetime; so chemotherapy was thenext course of treatment. Dan completed four years, and four types of chemo in June of2009.

Unfortunately, it is now six months later and the cancer is on the rise once again. Danhas now found himself going back on chemotherapy. Dan was once a very activebusiness owner and young, outgoing individual. He is now trapped to the likes ofseizures, drugs and hospital visits. He cannot work and support his family. His insurance, medications, and general life expenses are far more than his wife can handle. As afamily they have been helped by other family members as much as they can. We aredoing what we can as a congregation. Any additional support for this family as theystruggle to regain financial stability would be a great blessing.

Malaria Initiative`Malaria Initiative' is a non-profit corporation formed by Susan Busse MD., ThomasHesselink MD., and John Peterson, to bring spiritual and medical treatment to thosesuffering from Malaria, working with Lutheran Church Charities.

A treatment of acidified sodium chlorite at a cost of lessthan $00.01 USD. per dose has proven to be verypromising in preliminary laboratory and field trials. Wehave been working in Uganda, Sierria Leone, Ethiopia, and Ghana to improve our working relationship in thesecountries to further the treatment of Malaria using thisparticular treatment. Our goal is to spread the Message ofChrist and bring a useful and inexpensive treatment forMalaria; Malaria being the number one infectious killerworld wide.

We are currently working at gathering more scientific datafrom sites that have Malaria patients, to track them alongwith their progress, and to document the results of thetreatments so we can publish in medical journals. We aresupporting a PhD. student doing thesis work at WesternMichigan University on this promising treatment.

Malaria Initiative is looking to get help financing the above stated goals so they maytravel to train personnel and fulfill all our commitments. The three principals have takenno payment for their services, all have volunteered their services and funded much of thecosts out of pocket along with donations from generous donors.

Roof Collapsed on LCC's Donated WarehouseWe Need Your Help to Find Storage ASAP for all our DisasterResponse Equipment The roof on the donated warehouse space thatLCC has been using in Mundelein collapseddue to the weather. Thankfully no one was in

the building at the time but its collapse meansthat LCC no longer has space available to storeour disaster response equipment. We also usedthe warehouse for the temporary storage offurniture and supplies for our Ethnic Ministriesand for disaster victims. Warehouse space isvital to meet the increasing ministry needs thathave been placed before LCC. Help us to continue - by the Grace of God - to Make aDifference in People's Lives and in God's Kingdom. If you know of any available warehouse space please contact Tim Hetzner at 866-455-6466 or email [email protected].

Can You Help Us Find Some TemporaryWarehouse Space? The efficiency of the recent Haiti Collection event reallyhighlighted more of what LCC would be able to do if we had awarehouse facility that volunteers could work from.

The facility would also enable us to store the disaster responsevehicles and equipment in a state of preparedness and would helpus to move quickly.

For the other parts of our ministry, we need:

Workspace for our volunteers that is climate controlledShort term storage space for donations until they can bepicked upSpace large enough where we can drive in and store ourDisaster Response RV and trailers for immediateDEPLOYMENTA cargo bay allowing us the ability to load semis would alsobe a nice and useful feature.

If you know of someone who owns or has available warehousespace that isn't being currently used, please contact Tim Hetzner at Lutheran ChurchCharities. We understand that use of the warehouse would not be permanent and thatthe owner would have the full rights to regain their facility if it was to be rented or sold.LCC would carry the insurance on the space we are using. Please contact Tim Hetzner- President of LCC at 866-455-6466 if you know of someone. This would be atremendous help in meeting the increased demands LCC faces. Help us to continue to -by the Grace of God - Make A Difference in People's Lives and in God's Kingdom!
