Holiday February 19th

On January 11th I was honored to represent Madison County and deliver the an-nual State of the County address at the VBC to local business leaders and other elected officials. Once again, it was my privilege to highlight the accomplish-ments and achievements together we have made not only in the past year, but in the previous 5 years as I have served as Chairman of the Madison County Com-mission. We continue to make vital improvements and enhance the delivery of services to our County, and I look forward to continuing our work in 2018.

Earlier in January I was pleased to join local and state officials in Montgomery to be a part of the exciting Toyota-Mazda announcement. The $1.6 billion dollar joint facility will employ up to 4,000 employees, and produce 300,000 vehicles each year. This monumental announcement is a renewed commitment to our re-gion and positions Madison County for greater growth and success in the imme-diate and long-term future.

In February, Madison County is proud to once again participate in the 2018 Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday on the weekend of February 23rd thru the 25th, 2018. This special tax holiday offers the opportunity to purchase qualifying preparedness items free of sales tax. For more information and a list of covered items, visit:

Preventing the Flu: Good Health Habits Can Help Stop Germs 1. Avoid close contact. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

2. Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others.

3. Cover your mouth and nose. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

4. Clean your hands. Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

6. Practice other good health habits. Clean and disinfect fre-quently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
