Easter at Heritage PlaceThis Easter, our residents got involved in helping with the

festivities. We had a massive Easter egg hunt for all the children that came to visit. We also had a wonderful spread of appetizers and snacks from our culinary team and a lovely performance from Joyful Noise. We even had a visit from the Easter bunny! The weather was just perfect for this holiday and everyone enjoyed the food, fun, and fellowship.

Keeping it ClassyAt Heritage Place, we are always trying to be a better community than we

were the day before. We love making our residents happy and giving them the best experiences possible. To ensure that our activities meet our high standards of excellent service, we made a minor adjustment that made a big difference. We now have all new glassware for our residents to enjoy at our happy hours. This change brought our happy hours from a casual mix and mingle to an extravagant experience. We want the absolute best for our residents, and we will do our best every day to ensure that the best is what you get.

The Mary & Joe Food Show

One thing we love here at Heritage Place is game shows. We play Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Match Game. This month, we will be adding another game to

the mix: Chain Reaction. Chain Reaction is a game where you use letters as hints to link

a chain of words together. The first word and the last word in the chain are given, and you have to solve the words in the middle to complete the chain. This will be a fun new experience for our residents, so be sure to come check it out!

In May, Heritage Place will be combining two aspects of life in our community to bring you an original game like no other. The Mary & Joe Food Show will combine a game show atmosphere with a culinary focus. There will be 5 categories in this game: taste, discovery, knowledge, photography, and descriptions. Residents will be able to pick a category in hopes to answer correctly and win a prize. For the taste category, residents will try different foods and will have to identify them without seeing them. Our discovery category will consist of residents feeling inside a black box to try to identify foods by just feeling them. Our third category will consist of general knowledge questions that residents will have to answer. Our photography category will have close-up pictures of different foods and residents will have to label them with the correct food. Our final category, descriptions, is similar to jeopardy. A description of a food item will be read and residents will have to identify that item based on the description. This will be a fun, unique experience for residents. Whether you watch or participate, you don't want to miss out!

Our New Friend, MemphisResidents made a new friend in April thanks to the Copilot Academy. The Copilot

Academy is a dog training service based in Texas that trains puppies and adult dogs to fit a variety of needs. They offer basic training, aggression/anxiety training, puppy training, and training for dogs going into services such as therapy. Our residents were able to meet

and help train Memphis, a silver lab puppy that is being trained to be a therapy dog for patients in hospitals. By visiting Heritage Place, we were able to help Memphis learn key behaviors that are important for therapy dogs. Once Memphis graduates from training he will go on to help so many people, and residents are happy they got to be a part of that. Ingredient of the Month: Apricots

Apricots came to the 'New World' in the 17th century. Currently, almost all commercial production of apricots is from California, with Washington and Utah close behind. When commercially cultivated, apricots are typically grafted onto plum or peach rootstock to provide different characteristics. Apricots have been used for many purposes over the years. During the 17th century in England, apricot oil was used for herbalism treatments intended to act against tumors, swelling, and ulcers. Ancient Egyptians used dry apricots, added sweetener, and then fermented it into an alcoholic beverage. When apricots are consumed from a raw state they provide about 12% of the daily value of vitamin A and vitamin C. When dried, the concentration of these vitamins soar above 25% of the daily value. In the U.S. Marines, it is considered exceptionally bad luck to eat or possess apricots, especially near tanks. This superstition has been documented since at least the Vietnam War, and is often cited as originating during the Second World War.

Bone Health CheckThis month,

Heritage Place will have a new health ser v ice available for our residents. You may sign up in the book by the gift shop to secure your spot for a bone density check. The Center for Osteoporosis and Bone Health will be visiting us on May 30th to give residents a bone health evaluation. During the evaluation, they will review your risk for fracture and discuss the factors that contribute to low bone mass, skeletal fragility, falls, and fractures. The goal of the appointment will be to help you obtain the lowest risk possible for fracturing and enhance your quality of life. Here at Heritage Place, we want to do everything we can to give residents the best life possible. Offering these health services is a part of that. There are limited spots available, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible.

Welcome, Joel!Residents may have seen a new face walking around

our community. You'll see him working on renovations, completing work orders, and doing whatever needs to be done to make sure our community runs strong and smoothly. This face belongs to our new maintenance director, Joel. Joel moved to Texas from Arkansas on the 4th of July last year. He is the father to an 11-year-old child and has 2 Doberman Pinschers. In his free time, Joel likes to coach youth baseball. He has been in the construction and maintenance business since he was just 18 years old. While he has been at Heritage Place for about a month, he has worked hard to learn the ins and outs of our com-munity so he can be well-informed should any issues arise. He is excited to be a part of our team, and he looks forward to getting to know all the residents and helping them live their best life at Heritage Place.
