GEORGE COLLIGAN TRIO The Thursday night Piano Jazz Trio series “Straight, No Chaser” continues to present the highest Jazz talent in Los Angeles as well as New York. February 15th is no exception with the George Colligan Trio.

George Colligan is a New York-based pianist and one of the most original and compelling jazz artists of his generation. When he learned of his February trip to LA, he was eager to play the Tap Room, where the Thursday Night Series is known for its musical excellence. An award-winning composer (Chamber Music America/Doris Duke Foundation grant recipient) and player (winner, Jazzconnect.com Jazz Com-petition), Colligan is highly in demand as a sideman, having worked with players like Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Buster Williams, and Lonnie Plaxico, both on the bandstand and in recording sessions (appearing on over 100 CDs). He has released 24 recordings full of his intelligent writing and impressive technique. His latest CD on the Origin Label is called ”The Endless Mys-teries” and features Larry Grenadier and Jack DeJohnette. Colligan’s musical style incorporates everything from showtunes to funk, from free im-provisation to 20th century classical music. His performances include dazzling technique as well as mature restraint. Colligan was on the faculty of the Juilliard School for two years and is currently an Assistant Professor at Portland State University. He is currently a member of Jack DeJohnette’s New Quintet.

Jevon now is focused on finishing his 2nd record “Expansion” .

Max Haymer was born and raised in Los Angeles. He began his classical pi-ano studies at the age of seven and was introduced to jazz piano at 14. He has now performed with many amazing artists, including Arturo Sandoval, Mike Stern, Denise Donatelli, Greg Hutchinson, Bill Holman, Crystal Bower-sox, Mike Clark, Bob Francheschini, Cindy Blackman and Joel Frahm.

Sugar Joans is a soul and R&B songstress and a native of Los Angeles, California. Sugar was born with deep roots in music. Her father is singer Joe Pizzulo, best known for his vocals on “Never Gonna Let You Go.” the 80’s hit from acclaimed Brazilian musicians, Sergio Mendes. Mendes is also Sugar’s godfather. Sugar was a member of Team Pharell and a top 12 finalist on Season 7 of NBC’s “The Voice.”

David Arnay began his career in Ithaca, New York where heattended college during the late ‘70s. In that enlightenedupstate environment, he got involved with vibrant local music.After moving to Pasadena in the late ’80s, Arnay soon becameconnected in the Los Angeles jazz world.
