Amended Kolping Bylaws

By now, you have received either an E-mail with the proposed Kolping Bylaws attached, or a letter indicating that you can pick up a copy of the proposed bylaws at either the general meeting on February 2nd or the Seniors meeting on February 13th. If you cannot pick up a copy at either meeting, please contact a Kolping Board member to make arrangements to get a copy. We will be discussing and voting on passing the new bylaws at the general meeting on Friday, March 2nd. We will need a two thirds majority of the people at the meeting to pass the bylaws, so we would appreciate your participation. Many people have put in long hours in reviewing the bylaws, last amended in 2007, in attempting to update, modernize, and make them more relevant for our times. Please take the time to review them, and if you have any questions or concerns, contact Tom Musbach at 513-793-1148 or [email protected], or Nancy Pelzel at 513-385-3120 or [email protected].

THANK YOU!

Fr. David Hiller High School Scholarship

This is the FINAL NOTICE that once again the Fr. David Hiller Fund will offer two (2) $3,000 grants to children of active Kolping parents. The grants have been increased to $3,000 for this year's applicants. At least one parent must be a member for at least 3 years. Grants are available for children who will be freshmen at a Greater Cincinnati Catholic high school in the school year 2018-2019. These grants will be renewable for each successive school year, provided certain conditions are met.

In 2018, the grants will be awarded to the two freshman students. Current grant recipients are also required to provide current high school transcripts in order to receive their renewable grants. Applications and program description are available in the Hiller Fund mail slot in the Kolping Board room.

Applications should be sent directly to the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation, which will determine the awardees. The applications are not provided to the members of the FDHF Committee. Deadline is February 28, 2018.

A complete description of the program is available on the Kolping website, www.Kolpingcincinnati.com. Any additional questions should be sent to Paul Ahrnsen at 513-542-8554 or [email protected].

Kolping Genealogy

The February 18th session will focus on the types of German census records summarized in a new book by Dr. Roger P. Minert. His latest masterpiece focuses on German Census Records 1816-1916 and was just published in 2016. The first four chapters review the History of Census records in the German States, the 1867 Great Transition, the Records of the German Empire from 1871-1918, concluding with a review of Census Records in the German States from 1816 to 1864. The next 40+ chapters highlight each duchy/state/ kingdom/principality/free city/province beginning with Anhalt and Baden through Westpreußen and Wüerttemberg, offering specific information on research in these places. The last few chapters conclude on What Do We Know Now?, Writing to Archives in Germany, France and Poland, and actually conducting census research in these same places. Bring a pad of paper to take notes. We will meet at 2:00 pm in the Clubhouse. Dr. Tom Montgomery, [email protected], [email protected], 513-969-5383
