The Delta Times
Greetings from the President Sorors,
Happy Valentine’s Day, and I pray that you are warm and safe as we continue through
this season of winter. As I write these messages each month, I really try to focus on a
topic that has meaning and is near to my heart.
While thinking about a topic for this month, I
thought about where we are as a chapter and where
we intend to go. One of the goals over the past year
and a half has been to increase the visibility of our
chapter, which requires a constant and continued
commitment from us all as we maneuver schedules
and strive for life balance.
I thought about our activities just last month where
many of us viewed the Martin Luther King Jr. holi-
day as a day of service by first attending the 35th
Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Break-
fast at the Anne Arundel Community College, where
we served as a sponsor and also contributed to the
more than 1,500 can goods and donations collected and delivered to the Anne Arundel
Food & Resource Bank in Crownsville, Maryland.
Later that afternoon, chapter members, many accompanied by children and spouses,
braved the frigid temperatures and participated in the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. Parade sponsored by the City of Annapolis. Also last month, chapter members at-
tended the 2016 Maryland Statewide Founders Day Rededication and Luncheon at
Martin’s West in Baltimore, where the chapter was a part of the Rededication Ceremo-
ny, was represented on the dais, hosted the First Aid Station, served on the Hostess
Committee, and ran the technology for the event.
As we moved into this month, Sorors came out in full force to the “Pink Goes Red”
event, a collaboration with the Delta Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorori-
ty, Inc. in honor of Heart Disease Awareness Month. A few weeks later, chapter mem-
bers supported the “Meet the Greeks” event at the Anne Arundel County Community
College. The event was sponsored by the college's Black History Month Program in
which all Greek-lettered organizations in Anne Arundel County were asked to partici-
pate.
I highlight these activities to illustrate the strong commitment that we all have to our
sorority, our chapter, and the work we are doing in the community. As we continue,
please know we all play a part in the growth and success of our chapter. I truly appreci-
ate your commitment as we continue to move forward
Sisterly,
Claudia J. Postell

GEMS last session was held on Dec 17th at Old Mill High School. Presentations included
college and career readiness. Topics included financial aid and high school prep classes,
community college advantages, dates for SAT, financial aid and applications. There were
approximately 16 participants that took part in the session and holiday celebration. Partici-
pants received gift cards, notebooks, stationery items, gloves and cosmetics.
January was a busy month. Nine GEMS, two parents, and members of the GEMS commit-
tee attended the 35th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast at the Anne Arundel
Community College. Additionally, committee members and several GEMS attended the
M.A.D. Conference in Baltimore sponsored by the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sig-
ma Theta Sorority, Inc. in which the theme was “Full STEAM ahead”.
The committee would like to thank the chapter for its support and gifts for the holiday.
Please join us at the next session on February 25th.

Protocol
When we became members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., we took an oath to
carry out the principles of our great sorority! To quote Dorothy I. Height, our 10th
National President "To preserve tradition, we must bring it into the current decade
and make sure it remains viable for decades to come."
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., since its inception in 1913, has a sound system
of values and beliefs that encompass the nine Jewels and the '' Delta Oath". This
requires knowledge, study, review, and practice by every Soror as challenging as it
can be!
As a chapter, we must continue to implement Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Proto-
col and Traditions established by our founders and continued through the years by
our national, regional, and chapter leadership.
Throughout the rest of this sorority year, the chapter's Protocol and Traditions
Committee will strive, teaming with relevant committees and interested members,
to meet the following objectives:
To increase Soror's knowledge of the Sorority's Protocol and Traditions;
To ensure that Sorors know the proper attire for National Conventions, Region-
al Conferences, Chapter Meetings, and Ritualistic Ceremonies;
To ensure that Sorors are familiar with the correct way to sing the Sorority's
official songs; and
To ensure that Sorors know the Secrets, Passwords, Signs, and Grips of the So-
rority.
As a reminder, we will being with proper attire at Chapter Meetings:
Business attire (jackets must be worn over sleeveless tops or dresses with or
without straps);
No flip flops (this does not apply to dressy sandals or open toe shoes);
No denim (jeans, shorts, skirts, or jackets or unless the meeting is specifically
designated as non-business attire)
No Khakis; and
No paraphernalia.
Stay tuned as the Protocol and Traditions Committee continues to refresh and provide in
formation on these key topics.

On Saturday January 30, 2016, the Annapolis Alumnae Chapter hosted the First Aid Station at the 2016 Maryland State Wide Founders Day Rededication and Luncheon at Martin’s West in Baltimore, attended by more than 1200 Sorors. Special thanks to Committee Members Jo Ann Scipio, Marjorie Winston, Cherika Campbell, Chloe Knight, Angela Crankfield-Edmond, and Nnemdi Baird.
Pink Goes Red . . .
On Friday February 5, 2016, the Annapolis Alumnae Chapter partnered with the Delta Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for Heart Disease Awareness Month. The “Pink Goes Red” event included physical activity (line dancing), health screening (blood pressure, BMI), coun-seling on low salt diet, and smoking cessation and was well attended by Sorors, family members, and friends. Sorors,
Thank you for joining us on SWA Flight 1913 to Las Vegas.
We’re sure Sorors Candis, Kim, and Lynne had a great time and are remember-
ing that “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!”
And with freezing temps here now in the 20s and 30s, a warm weekend in OC is
a nice thought to ponder.
At the January chapter meeting, the committee distributed 750 raffle tickets
(50% of total printed). Thank you Sorors for your tremendous support. Sorors
selling at least two (2) books of tickets will receive a special gift (while supplies
last, so turn in money ASAP).
The Spring Activity committee would like each chapter member to sell at least 1
book of 10 raffle tickets. All 1500 tickets sold = $6,000.00+ that goes to our
youth programs. If you have not received tickets, please contact Soror Candis
Turner Milbourne, Raffle Coordinator.
Fashion show tickets are going well. Of the 385 tickets available for sale, to date,
209 (54%) have been sold. So please hurry. If you have not yet purchased your
tickets, please make plans to do so soon.
A full table seats 11 guests. Full tables can be purchased allowing Sorors to select
their choice of table up until March 19. You may also purchase less than 11 tick-
ets; however, those persons with partial tables will not be assigned until after
full table selections have been assigned on March 19th.
Upon purchase, Sorors will be contacted to view the floor plan. You should give
your preference to table number as well as who you would like to partner with
for seating. If you have questions, please contact Sorors Janet Anderson or Die-
dra Screws, Fashion Show Ticket Coordinators.
Additionally, at the February and March chapter meetings, you will be able to
purchase a $10.00 raffle ticket for the chance to win the Hilton Honors points
awarded for having our Spring Activity program at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel.
Proceeds from this raffle will offset the price of the complimentary meals for this
year’s scholars. This raffle is exclusive to Annapolis Alumnae members. If you
are not currently a member of the Hilton Honors Program, join now. Go to
www.hhonors.com and click on JOIN. It’s FREE.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
A Message from Our Chaplain
Greetings Sorors,
Happy New Year! What an exciting and great year we have before us! I am looking forward to all that life has to offer striving to live on purpose and not to simply exist. Taking responsibility for my actions and inactions and moving forward with faith knowing that the journey I will embark on in 2016 will only reaffirm my relationship with God and the purpose for my life. Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he
is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. DEUT 7:9(NKJV) Sorors, as we seek to fulfill our purpose on this beautiful planet we call home we must enjoy the journey. We must plan but remain flexible and open to God's destiny for our lives knowing that the journey can be more important than the final destination. We must continue to move forward growing, learning and expanding our influence in our communities and our immediate circles having faith that the journey is a product of God shaping and molding us to be the best. We also must embrace and accept all facet of the journey to include those events we would rather ignore or forget. Every event in our lives adds character and strength to our journey making the final destination more rewarding. The Annapolis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta journey in 2016 will be EPIC! I pray we all take the time to enjoy the journey!
