Iowa Lakes Delivering Singing Valentines! Say “I love you” with a Singing Valentine… and leave your sweetheart
speechless! On Friday, February 13th, the Iowa Lakes Men’s Quartet will
deliver Singing Valentines for area residents and business people looking
for a fun and exciting way to send a Valentine message to their sweet-
hearts, family members, friends, employees, or customers.
The singers can serenade them at home, at work, in a restaurant, or any-
where else you choose. Wherever they appear, they’ll draw a crowd – and
sometimes a few tears.
A Singing Valentine includes two songs sung by the tuxedo-clad quartet,
a rose, a personalized Valentine’s card, and a photograph so you can al-
ways remember the occasion. Men and women alike are on the receiving
end – with moving results.
The cost is $25. To order, contact Brett Fuelberth, Vocal Music Professor,
at [email protected] or call 712-362-7963. Please note due to
travel time, valentines are limited to the Estherville and Spirit Lake area.
Jazz Band Contest and Show Choir/ Jazz Choir Festival
On Jan. 21 and 22, area high school bands from three different
classes participated in the Music Department’s 41st Annual Jazz
Band Contest. Each band performed in front of an audience and
three experienced judges. Besides judging the competition, the
judges also offered valuable feedback for the bands to use in future
competitions. In Class 1A, Central Lyon was awarded top honors,
Harris Lake Park. In Class 2A, South Central Calhoun was award-
ed top honors, Okoboji was 2nd, and Alta-Aurelia came in 3rd. In Class 3A, Storm Lake High was
awarded top honors, Spirit Lake was 2nd, and Spencer came in 3rd.
On Jan. 27 and 28, the Iowa Lakes Music Department hosted its annual Show Choir/Jazz Choir
Fest. Twenty-four area show and jazz choirs showcased their talents in front of an audience and a
professional clinician. Following the performances, the clinician provided valuable feedback for
the choirs to use in upcoming shows and competitions. Veteran clinicians Kurt Runestad and Clay
Blackman did a wonderful job working with the jazz choirs and show choirs, respectively.

Blue Note Club adopts changes/ New Donor Board
In 2008, we inaugurated the Blue Note Club as a way of
creating a strong base of donors to start a fund for music
scholarships. The response was wonderful! We want to
see the Blue Note Club grow each year through the help
of great art supporters like you, so that the Music Depart-
ment at Iowa Lakes Community College will not only
continue, but flourish as well. With your help that can
happen!
At Iowa Lakes, we believe the greatest gift a student can
receive (besides an awesome education!) is a scholarship.
Scholarships provide tremendous opportunities and finan-
cial assistance to deserving students. Your gift to music
scholarships through the Blue Note Club will make a sig-
nificant difference in the lives of our student-musicians
and ensure that deserving students who wish to attend
Iowa Lakes are not left behind because of economic
constraints.
The Blue Note Club is comprised of four levels of sup-
port: Prodigy - donations of $249 and under; Composer -
$250-$499; Virtuoso - $500-$999; and Maestro - $1000+.
Scholarship donations to the Iowa Lakes Foundation
(Music Scholarship Fund) are tax deductible to the full
extent of the law under the Internal Revenue code. Please
contact Tony Condon at [email protected] or
1-800-242-5106 Ext. 4491 or call 712-362-0491 for more
information.
