Reconnecting With Your Sweetheart After Months Apart

Deployment happens to the whole family, it doesn’t just happen to the service member. Re-

integration will likely bring some surprises for everyone. Reconnection also requires re-

negotiation. In the weeks after a long deployment has ended, it’s wise to revisit some key

issues. Discuss them calmly, before conflict arises, to see how things may have changed

and how you want to proceed.

Major areas worth covering are:

How household/marital decisions are made

How money is spent

Rules for the children, if you have any

Who does which household tasks

Claims to physical space in your home

Also, try following these simple rules:

1 Do set reasonable expectations

2 Don’t push for too much, too soon

3 Do invite interaction

4 Don’t globalize (don't’ say things like “I don’t think we’re going to make it” or “You

always shut me out”. Such broad general statements are seldom true.

5 Do be patient

6 Do be lighthearted

7 Don’t take things personally

8 Do acknowledge Change

9 Don’t tolerate disrespect

10 Do get help

Soldiers and Spouses of HHC,

We have officially moved into 2012 and there is no looking

back. “Remember the past, live for the present, and plan

for the future”. ~Anonymous

Notable dates for this month:

February 14th – Valentine’s Day. Make sure you make

someone special feel special!

Four day weekend for President’s Day from 17-20 Feb.

Everyone can always use some rest and relaxation.

XX February – ATSSE deployment. Our Air Traffic Services Standardization Element will

be departing this month so be prepared to support their departure.

FRG

The FRG social this month will be held on 21 February at the Commons on 7th Ave. The

time again will be 1800-1930. Food will be provided. Theme is still to be determined.

Hope to see you there.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

The Warhawks have been working on new pieces of equipment over the last few months

and that training will be coming to a close this month. Preparation will now begin to take

everything we learned to the field. All Soldiers have done a fantastic job during this

fielding. Also in this month we plan on conducting our last two road marches and an Army

Physical Fitness Exam.

NEW ARRIVALS

I would like to welcome our newest Warhawks this past month: LTC Brooks, MAJ

Sermon, CPT Poteau, SPC Dailey, SPC Staley, PFC Flythebrown, PV2 Reid, and PV2

Trado. Their backgrounds range from chemical, to maintenance, to intelligence analyst.

FAREWELLS

A few Soldiers are leaving us this month and they will be missed. Sergeant Kobel,

Specialist Erturk, and Corporal McCune will all be medically retiring this month. Their

dedication to this unit will be missed and wish them all the best of luck.

Families of the 597th,

January was eventful with the return from Exodus and the Martin

Luther King, Jr. 4-Day weekend. I hope everyone had a great

start to the New Year and are on track with your resolutions. I

would like to welcome the newest member of the unit, SSG

Chiquita Cole and her family.

The month of February is here with Valentine’s Day on the 14th

and Presidents Day Weekend from the 17th through the 20th. Of

on for the championship this year?
