Preparation for Worship Taken from Prone to Wander

Promise:

Behold what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.

But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All

who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. 1 John 3:1-3

Prayer:

Because of our great and living hope in Christ, we want to live lives shaped by the gospel and

compelled by your love. Continue to free us by your grace, change us by your Spirit, and liberate

us for your purposes. Intensify our love for holiness, your kingdom, and our neighbors.

Provision:

“Are you dejected? here is comfort; are you sinful? here is righteousness; are you led away

with present contentments? here you have honours, and pleasures, and all in Christ Jesus.”

― Richard Sibbes, Works of Richard Sibbes

Presence:

“It isn't Narnia, you know," sobbed Lucy.

"It's you. We shan't meet you there. And how can we live, never meeting you?"

"But you shall meet me, dear one," said Aslan.

"Are - are you there too, Sir?" said Edmund.

"I am," said Aslan. "But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name.

This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a

little, you may know me better there.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

his marvelous works among all the peoples!

+The Hymn of Praise (stanzas 1, 3 & 4) Hymn No. 175

Crown Him with Many Crowns CCLI License # 11216176

Crown Him with many crowns,

The Lamb upon His throne

Hark how the heavenly anthem drowns

All music but its own

Awake my soul and sing

Of Him who died for thee

And hail Him as thy matchless King

Through all eternity

Crown Him the Lord of life

Who triumphed o'er the grave

And rose victorious in the strife

For those He came to save

His glories now we sing

Who died and rose on high

Who died eternal life to bring

And lives that death may die

Crown Him the Lord of peace

Whose power a sceptre sways

From pole to pole

That wars may cease

Page 4: FEBRUARY 11, 2018 Easter Sundaystorage.cloversites.com/faithpresbyterianchurch2/... · ― Richard Sibbes, Works of Richard Sibbes Presence: “It isn't Narnia, you know," sobbed

And all be prayer and praise

His reign shall know no end

And round His pierced feet

Fair flowers of paradise extend

Their fragrance ever sweet

Crown Him the Lord of love

Behold His hands and side

Rich wounds yet visible above

In beauty glorified

All Hail Redeemer hail

For Thou has died for me

Thy praise and glory shall not fail

Throughout eternity

All Hail Redeemer hail

For Thou has died for me

Thy praise and glory shall not fail

Throughout eternity

The Old Testament Reading Zephaniah 3:17, 19

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save;

he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love;

he will exult over you with loud singing and gather the outcast,

and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth.

Corporate Prayer

+The Hymn of Thanksgiving (stanzas 1, 3 & 4) Hymn No. 262

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;

Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!

God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,

Which wert and art and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,

Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;

Only Thou art holy there is none beside Thee,

Perfect in pow’r, in love and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea;

Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!

God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Wonderful, Merciful Savior CCLI License #11216176

Wonderful merciful Savior. Precious Redeemer and Friend.

Who would have thought that a Lamb could rescue the souls of men

Oh You rescue the souls of men

Counselor Comforter Keeper. Spirit we long to embrace.

You offer hope when our hearts have hopelessly lost the way

Oh we hopelessly lost the way

Chorus:

You are the One that we praise

You are the One we adore

You give the healing and grace

Our hearts always hunger for

Oh our hearts always hunger for

Almighty infinite Father. Faithfully loving Your own.

Here in our weakness You find us falling before Your throne

Oh we're falling before Your throne (Chorus)

You are the One that we praise

You the One that our hearts hunger for

Your Spirit had awakened

Our lifeless hearts to see

The King in brilliant glory

Revealed in majesty

We were ruined in Your presence

And tearing at the seams

Our eyes had gazed upon the King of kings

Page 6: FEBRUARY 11, 2018 Easter Sundaystorage.cloversites.com/faithpresbyterianchurch2/... · ― Richard Sibbes, Works of Richard Sibbes Presence: “It isn't Narnia, you know," sobbed

Chorus:

We fall down in awe of You

We fall down undone

We fall down before You Lord

Undone

Our hands had crafted idols

Our lips had spoken lies

Ev'ry wayward thought we had

Against us testified

But You were rich in mercy

To provide what You demand

And now on Christ the solid rock we stand (Repeat Chorus)

Holy Holy Holy One (Repeat Chorus)

The Scripture Revelation 5:1-14

1 Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within

and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a

loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven

or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began

to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And

one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the

Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb

standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the

seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 And he went and took the scroll from the

right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the

four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a

harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they

sang a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll

and to open its seals,

for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation,

10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,

and they shall reign on the earth.”

11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the

voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying

with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might

and honor and glory and blessing!”

Page 7: FEBRUARY 11, 2018 Easter Sundaystorage.cloversites.com/faithpresbyterianchurch2/... · ― Richard Sibbes, Works of Richard Sibbes Presence: “It isn't Narnia, you know," sobbed

13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea,

and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

+The Hymn of Response (stanzas 1 & 3) Hymn No. 72

We Will Glorify

We will glorify the King of kings,

We will glorify the Lamb;

We will glorify the Lord of lords,

Who is the great I Am.

Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty,

We will bow before His throne;

We will worship Him in righteousness,

We will worship Him alone.

He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth,

He is Lord of all who live;

He is Lord above the universe,

All praise to Him we give.

Hallelujah to the King of kings,

Hallelujah to the Lamb;

Hallelujah to the Lord of lords,

Who is the great I Am.
