Vocabulary Parade is coming:We are gearing up for our annual vocabulary parade on March 2 at 1:45 and you are invited to be an honored guest. Students will go through the elementary hallways and make their way outside around the front of the school. Bring your lawn chairs and cameras as we are asking parents and grandparents to watch and cheer as they make their way out! We can’t wait to see you there!

Winter Break:Winter Break is right around the corner. We will have a half-day this Friday, February 14 and begin winter break

February 17-21. Enjoy this time with your family and come back refreshed! School will resume on February 24th.

Denim and Diamonds:Tickets and tables are selling fast!

Our 10th Annual Denim & Diamonds Dinner and Auction will be held on Friday, March 13th, 2020 at 5:30 PM. This year, the funds raised will be designated to build a sport facility to specifically house our wrestling and cheer teams as they practice. This will not only provide a space with safety mats for our student athletes but will also free up space within the main buildings for other sports, clubs, and groups thus benefitting all students, parents, and staff members.  Make sure you register online at http://cbo.io/dd/tix to be a part of this amazing night and supporting your school!

Father/Daughter Dance:Our Father/Daughter Dance was a huge success and a sweet night for those who attended. It was a wonderful evening filled with laughter, eating, and dancing.

Jeans for Teens:

We are still collecting jeans through February 28 for our teens for jeans drive to benefit the homeless in our community! Bring in jeans any size, any brand and help the school to reach our goal of collecting 1000 jeans to ea r n a schoo l w ide f ree sweatpants day!

Special Awards:Hayden Lockhart placed silver in the Musical Theatre solo division at the CITA (Christians in Theatre Arts) festival over the weekend. She p laced second in a f i e ld o f 5 5. Congratulations Hayden!

Student Achievement:Will Miller was not only named Strong Rock’s STAR student but was also named one of the winners of Henry County’s Student Teacher Achievement Recognition from a group of 17 finalists Thursday morning during the district’s annual STAR breakfast hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.To be named a Henry County STAR, students must have the highest SAT score and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of the class based on grade-point average at their high school. Will scored a 1570 on his SAT and a perfect score on his ACT. Each STAR student chose a STAR teacher who has influenced their lives and academics. Will chose Mrs. Rita Poole as his STAR teacher. Will and Mrs. Poole will move forward into the region competition for the title on March 24. Should they win, they’ll move to state-level competition on April 27. Congratulations Will!

Academy Astronaut Challenge:The Academy Astronaut Challenge Team placed 3rd in the Landing Simulation and 2nd in the Design Challenge.

Our Academy Team was Madison Blackwelder, Zurie Cadet, Emilie Davis, Charlotte Gilreath, Ozburn McMurry, Victoria Merck, Catherine Mudge, Ethan Nguyen, Kalah Reed, Isaac Sanders, and Avery Sims. They worked so hard and it was evident in their presentations.

High School Astronaut Challenge:

We’ve had an very gifted and talented group of high school students represent Strong Rock at the NASA Astronaut Challenge. They were able to walk away with 1st place in

Simulation. This group consisted of Jada Davis, Andrew Ellington, Sara McCracken, Chloe Powell (8th grade), Merritt Smith, and Audrey Vu. Congratulations on all of your hard work, preparation and obtaining 1st place.

Atlanta Food Bank:We had a group of SGA students volunteering at the Atlanta Food Bank on Tuesday, Feb. 4th. They packed over 9,000 lbs. of food and provided over 6,700 meals for those in need. We are so proud of how our students served with a joyful heart and represented Strong Rock!

Thes Con:The Patriot Players of Strong Rock Thespian Troupe, Troupe 8319, traveled to Columbus, GA this past weekend to attend the 2020 GA Thes Con. Our troupe had six students participate in the Individual Events Competition, six students audition for colleges, three students participate in scholarship interviews, and five students participate in the Improv Challenge. Students were able to see shows from schools across the state, participate in workshops ranging from circus tricks to vocal prep to monologue delivery techniques, and visit college reps from over thirty colleges. Our students received great feedback from their competition judges, over thirty-five college callbacks in all, and Madison Smith snd Wyatt Smith advanced to the Improv Challenge Finals. It was a successful conference for our Troupe and we are so proud of our students.
