Welcome to God’s House today!!! A special welcome to visitors and guests; we are pleased that you have

joined us today! If you have no church family, and if we can be of any help to you, please speak with the pastor after the service. We invite all guests to

sign the Guest Register. We pray you will feel God’s love for you and be empowered to live as God’s child this week.

Today’s Focus – With God, Unworthiness is Met by Grace Isaiah said, "Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips.” St. Paul is "unfit to be called an apostle." Peter begs Jesus "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man." For each the confession of unworthiness is met by grace. Isaiah’s sin is blotted out and He receives his call.. By the grace of God Paul claims the designation of "apostle" and proclaims the Gospel. And Peter is told that he will be catching people. It is not who or what we are in ourselves that is important but what God has determined us to be. His grace overcomes our unworthiness. Our response to God’s grace is to be like that of Paul who worked hard so that the grace of God was not in vain.

Children are welcome in worship! If childcare is needed, an unattended nursery is open during worship services. It is located across from the restrooms next to the Church Offices.

Is there something you’d like us to pray for today? “Prayer

Request” cards are in each pew. Please hand your request to an usher before the service or during the offering. They will give them to the pastor to include in the prayers for today.

The Lord’s Supper is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. We joyfully share our conviction that this is The Lord's Table. We receive the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, together with the bread and wine in a manner our human reason cannot understand. (Real Presence) By communing together with our Lord: - we express the belief that Jesus is the Son of God and Son of Man; - that Jesus is our Savior and only way for salvation; - that Jesus offers us His Body and Blood in a mysterious yet real way; - that Christ's sacrificial death grants the forgiveness of our sins; - and that God is strengthening us in this Sacrament to live a more godly;

life and to amend with the help of the Holy Spirit, those areas not in conformity with God’s will.

We declare these statements because it is our concern for people to not be hypocritical between their faith and celebrate the blessings of God's Table at the Altar. Persons unable to approach the Altar may be communed in the pew, please notify the Pastor or Elder if you wish this service.

The white wine is denatured (alcohol removed)

FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY WORDS OF PREPARATION Epiphany is the season of revelation. Isaiah is face to face with God and his sin overwhelms him, yet God’s grace restores him as His prophet. St. Paul too, can never forget how God changed his life in His calling. In today's Gospel Jesus reveals to Peter where to fish for the big catch and it changes Peter's life forever. Through His Word Jesus continues to call us to become "fishers of men" and to leave behind our fears to follow Him.

TODAY’S LUTHERAN HOUR February 10 Where Heaven Meets Earth" (John 3:1-21)

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler Hitting that snooze button may be doing more harm than good. It's

time to stop spiritual snoozing and wake up.

NEXT WEEK ON THE LUTHERAN HOUR February 17 "Enter His Labor" (John 4:1-42)

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler What would you do if your Word was all-powerful? Jesus started a

conversation with an outsider.

On Sunday mornings, listen on 830 AM WCCO AM at 6:05 am, or 1110 AM, Omaha, at 6:30 am, or XM 170 Satellite Radio on Sundays at noon or listen anytime at www.lutheranhour.org

STEWARDSHIP: Feb. 10 (The Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany)

Luke 5:5 – “And Simon answered, ‘Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.’ ” Peter’s words show both exasperation and trust. He’s tired. He tried his best and failed. But he is still ready to trust the Lord’s word – and act on it. Our stewardship is also a matter of trusting the Lord’s word … and acting on it.

LUTHERANS FOR LIFE: February 10 “[T]here’s more …

more to life than sensual pleasures, more to love than the shriveled-up version that has captivated our Western imaginations. So today, ask yourself, ‘How am I responding to so great an expression of love as what God has shown us?’ Valentinus’s response was to give up his own life. For us, too, a kind of ‘death’ is required—a death to self, a death to the desires that our culture treats as ultimate. Now of course, guys, none of this lets you off the hook with your wives. So don’t forget the flowers.” John Stonestreet with Roberto Rivera, www.breakpoint.org – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

Catechesis Note for the Week "Does a person have to attend church

to go to heaven?"

Salvation is found in Christ. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). God gave His Son so that we may have eternal life, thus destroying the need of good works, including going to church, to go to heaven.

Eternal life is attained by faith alone in Christ alone. “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). Those who believe in Christ, who have accepted His sacrifice in payment of their sins, will spend eternity in heaven. Those who reject Him will not.

No amount of church attendance will earn eternity in heaven. No lack of church attendance will result in the loss of salvation. However, church attendance is important. The universal Church, made up of all who believe in Christ to the glory of God the Father, is Christ's body (Colossians 1:18) as well as His Bride (Revelation 21:2). So a church is a place of Christian fellowship where we should “consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” In addition, as members of the body of Christ, we possess certain gifts of the Spirit, and we are to exercise those gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the rest of the body. For a church body to function properly, all of its “body parts” need to be present (1 Cor 12:14-20).

Christians who have been made “new creations” in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17) should have a desire to attend church because they will recognize that doing so is crucial to their spiritual development and maturity. Reluctance toward church attendance may be an indication of disillusion with “organized religion.” There are indeed false churches today, but the true, universal Church is expressed through congregations whose doctrines are based entirely on the Scriptures, which are trustworthy (Psalm 111:7) and inspired by God Himself (2 Timothy 3:16). Although no church is perfect, and church attendance will not guarantee eternal life, finding a good local church is crucial for Christians.

Today’s Scripture Readings

Isaiah 6:1-13; The first 5 chapters of Isaiah lay out the spiritual problem of Judah. They have forgotten and forsaken the Lord (1:4); their worship is futile (1:11-17); corruption marks their leadership (1:23). Greed has led to injustice (5:8). Isaiah 6:1-8,after Isaiah’s awesome vision, God sends the prophet into an uncertain, sinful, unstable situation. God tells Isaiah that his preaching and ministry will not work. The people will not listen. Isaiah’s words will even create the dullness. Yet though Isaiah’s ministry was difficult, it was not without hope. The remnant will indeed return, but even the remnant will eventually be judged. Israel was not done being disobedient when the returned from the Babylonian captivity, and God was not done bringing His judgment on a disobedient Israel.

1 Corinthians 15:1-11; This message must have been a tough sell among the nations who had their own ancient gods with spectacular temples and golden statues. Religion was at the heart of everyday life. And yet a church formed around the scandalous claim of the bodily resurrection of a Jewish peasant from a backwater region of the Empire. We find some in First Church Corinth in doubt. Why would this God raise the dead? Couldn’t we just follow Jesus’s teaching without talking about resurrection? For Paul, there is no good news unless God has raised Jesus from the dead. If God has not raised Jesus, if God has not claimed victory over death, then the gospel is a sham.

Luke 5:1-11; Two important issues are in the background Luke 5:1-11: authority and mission. Authority: who should the community believe? Mission: what should the community do in its context? These questions were important to Luke’s congregation and they should be important to the church today as well. A ccording to Luke, the church continues the apostolic tradition when it offers individuals, households, and communities the values and practices of the Realm of God as an alternative way of life..

Next Week’s Readings – 6th Sunday after Epiphany Jeremiah 17:5–8; Psalm 1; 1 Cor. 15:12–20; Luke 6:17–26

THE LEGEND OF VALENTINE....

According to legend, the valentine takes its name from a young Christian whom once lived in ancient Rome. Like so many of the early Christians, Valentine had been imprisoned because of his faith. Often and

longingly he thought of his loved ones and wanted to assure them of his well being and his love. Beyond his cell window, but within reach, grew a cluster of violets. He picked some heart-shaped leaves and pierced them

to spell the words, “Remember your Valentine,"

and sent them off by a friendly dove. On the next day

and the next, he sent more messages that simply said,

"I love you."

By this the valentine had its beginning. On Valentine's Day, people of all ages remember those they love by

sending valentines. God loves us and He sends us gifts to show His love for us, not once a year, but every day. He sends us many blessings: love, joy, peace, seasons of sunshine, health, even the fresh white

snow to remind us Christ's righteousness which covers us. Best of all, He sent His only-begotten Son to earth to become our Savior. Have you left God's valentines

unopened? If so, then take some time to read His messages of love in His Word and know His Son and your personal Savior. Then, send Him a valentine -- your grateful heart -- to show Him that He has not

loved in vain. For in this we are certain, that "We love Him, because He first loved us."

(1 John 4:19)
