CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1PM, MAMATA HAVE A SILENT SLUGFEST...In a rare joint appearance with PM Modi, the CM refused tospeak as chants of ‘Jai Sri Ram’ was heard from the audience.“I am insulted as it is not any political rally. It is a governmentprogramme to celebrate the birth anniversary of Netaji. Af-ter calling me such an insult was not expected. I will not speakat this event,” said Banerjee, thanking the PM for attendingthe event. The PM referred to Mamata Banerjee as his ‘behen’(sister).Earlier in day, she had lashed out at the Centre over the nam-ing of Netaji’s birth anniversary as “Parakram Diwas”. Shehad urged the Centre to declare it as a National Holiday andalso ‘Desh Nayak Diwas’ as Rabindranath Tagore had be-stowed the title of Desh Nayak on Netaji.BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya took to Twitter and allegedthat Banerjee had ‘insulted’ the memory of Netaji and that‘Bengal will not tolerate this disregard of its icons’.BJP Bengal observer Kailash Vijayvargiya mentioned thatafter Rabindranath Tagore Mamata Banerjee had ‘insulted’Netaji. The PM inaugurated postal stamps and a dedicated galleries‘Nirbhik Subhas’ (Fearless Subhas) and ‘Biplabi Bharat’ tocelebrate 125 th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas ChandraBose. The PM also said that once Netaji wanted to go to Delhito free India and today Delhi is coming to Kolkata to celebratethe birthday of the biggest Saint.

Didi wants four capitalsShe added that Kolkata should also be another capital state.Slamming the Central government for calling January 23 as‘Parakram Diwas’, Mamata claimed that neither she nor any-one from Netaji’s family was consulted. “Nobel laureate Ra-bindranath Tagore called Netaji Deshnayak. This is the rea-son we call it Desh Nayak Diwas. Netaji should be understoodwith emotions. There are few people who love their mother-land as much as Netaji. We all know about Netaji’s birthdaybut are unaware about his death,” mentioned the West BengalChief Minister.Taking further potshots at the BJP government, Mamataquestioned why did the Central government close the plan-ning Commission that was conceptualized by Netaji himself.“We don’t politicise Netaji. We are in touch with Netaji’s fam-ily all around the year. But some just want to take Netaji’sname just because the election is nearing. The Centre has dis-solved Netaji’s planning commission. It must be recovered. Now the central government doesn’t listen to anyone. Theyare destroying the federal structure,” further added Mamata.Mamata also said that a monument, named after Azad HindFauj, will be built in Rajarhat area and a state-funded univer-sity, which is also being set up, will be dedicated to Netaji.“A monument, named after Azad Hind Fauj, will be built atRajarhat. A university named after Netaji is also being set upwhich shall be funded entirely by the state, and will have tie-ups with foreign universities,” added the Chief Minister be-fore starting the ‘Padyatra’ towards Red Road tio garland an-other statue of Subhas Chandra Bose.

BMC keen to bring meal on wheels in...He added, "There are at least three to four streets in each ofthe 24 wards in the city where informal and uncheckedKhau Gallis exist and some of these stalls operate from latenight to the wee hours, many of these stalls are illegal andunhygienic. Once the street food hubs are set up, things willbe uniform and clean. Those willing to set up stalls in thesefood hubs will have to apply for the same and follow therules. Following this licensed food trucks and stalls will beallotted fixed pitches and existing places will be upgraded."The civic body has almost decided on a fixed time windowfor food hubs in tourist areas or public places. However, thecivic officials are thinking of allowing these food hubs to re-main open from morning to evening in commercial hubsand office areas like Nariman Point, Fort, Lower Parel and afew others. An official said, "We will set stringent norms forthe stalls and food trucks that will be allotted pitches atthese food hubs. They will have to ensure they clean up theplace before the shut shop."Civic officials claim that the initiative will not only add tothe revenue of BMC coffers but also generate employment.

Hitting the campaign trail inWestern Tamil Nadu aheadof upcoming Assembly poll,Congress leader Rahul Gand-hi on Saturday sought to str i -ke a "blood relationship" wi -th people, taking on the ModiGovernment at the Centre.“You have given my grand-mother (Indira Gandhi) andfather (Rajiv Gandhi) somuch love and affection I amindebted to you. My relation-ship with you is not politicalbut it is a blood relationship. That is why I want to helpyou have a government thatrespects Tamils and takes thestate on the path of the devel-opment," he told multiplegatherings in Coimbatoreand Tiruppur, both industri-al towns. At an interaction with en-trepreneurs from the medi-um, small and minor enter-prises (MSMEs), Rahulsought to drive home the

point the foundation of eco-nomic growth in India is di-versity. "The notion the PMhas that you can reduce di-versity and grow faster, is ig-norance, it is lack of under-standing and lack of respect. They think power should becentralised, one man shouldcontrol everything, one or-ganisation should controleverything," he said, adding,"but you cannot have aneconomy without diversity."Stating the erstwhile Con-gress-led UPA governmentconceptualised the GST asone minimum tax, he ac-cused the BJP government of"superimposing GST." He

favoured its restructuring. The Congress MP, who if arecent survey is to be be-lieved, is preferred as a na-tional leader in Tamil Naduthan Modi, rhetoricallyasked, "You have seen pic-tures of PM with large indus -tries. Have you seen picturesof the PM with MSMEs?”During the Covid-19 pan-demic, the governmentshould have certain provi-sions that make GST morebenign, he felt. Charging theModi govt of not respectingTamils, he said the Congresswanted to help the people geta government that recog-nised the Tamil self-respect."Tamil Nadu that hadshown the way for the rest ofthe country in industrialisa-tion had now fallen back-wards. There was a lot thecountry learnt from the state. But that is not the case. Thatis why Tamil Nadu needs anew thinking and new gov-ernment," Rahul said.
