Page 3: Feb. 24 - Mar. 12, 2017 - Welcome to Sunnyvale …sunnyvaleplayers.org/uploads/3/4/8/2/34820695/shrek...Character Descriptions Shrek Our story's title character. A big, green, terrifying

Character Descriptions Shrek Our story's title character. A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. Vocal range top: G#4, Vocal range bottom: A2

Fiona The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. Vocal range top: G5, Vocal range bottom: F3

Donkey A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad's guards. Quite the chatterbox, Donkey is not deterred by Shrek's looks and becomes a part of Shrek’s life, whether Shrek wants that or not. Easily frightened and pushy, but also an optimistic with heart. Vocal range top: B4, Vocal range bottom: C3

Lord Farquaad The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princes to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: B2

Dragon A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. Vocal range top: Eb5, Vocal range bottom: F3

Gingy/Sugar Plum Fairy A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Character also appears as a puppet operated by the Sugar Plum Fairy. Vocal range top: C#5, Vocal range bottom: B3

Pinocchio The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. Vocal range top: F#4, Vocal range bottom: E3

Captain of the Guard Lord Farquaad’s right hand, this captain of the guard is determined to bring order to Duloc. Between leading Lord Farquaad’s soldiers, and making sure Farquaad has everything a ruler of Duloc could require, this character makes a serious impression on our story. Well seriously funny, anyways. *Speaking role only

Ensemble Groups:

SCP PRACTICES

BOTH PARENT AND AUDITIONER MUST READ & SIGN THIS INFORMATION BEFORE AUDITIONING OR APPLYING FOR A CREW POSITION In order to utilize our rehearsal time most efficiently, SCP must maintain a rigorous, fixed rehearsal schedule to make the process fair to all involved. This will allow us to produce the best show possible. If you cannot fulfill the obligations below (especially regarding attendance) then we encourage you to take this show off and audition for the next show. A contract specifying these obligations is enclosed. It should be signed and turned in during auditions with the audition packet. DEADLINES Cast members must meet all deadlines set by the Director. GRADES Cast members are to maintain good grades during their involvement in the show. Rehearsals should not be an excuse for unfinished homework or for being unprepared for class. COSTUMES The Costume Designer will let all cast members know what theatre basics (undergarments such as tank tops, shorts, tights, etc) and shoes they will need to purchase (if not already owned) for this production. The rest of your costume will be provided by SCP. PARENT INVOLVEMENT Parent support is essential to the success of any production. Parents should be willing to set an example for their child by volunteering to help with the production and assisting him/her in memorizing lines and blocking. However, parents (except for Rehearsal Chaperones) should not plan to watch or attend rehearsals. The time during rehearsals is closed to parents. If you have any questions regarding these obligations and practices, including the purpose of them, please see the producers. SCP CONFLICT & ATTENDANCE POLICY Please complete the Conflict Sheet carefully and truthfully, as it will be used in the casting process. It is critical to successful casting and rehearsal scheduling to be as complete and accurate as possible. When writing your conflicts, be sure to include:

• Any other production you are in at this time • Vacations and trips • All regular weekly commitments such as classes, lessons, and athletic activities.

If a child with a large number of conflicts is being considered for a lead role, they may be asked to eliminate certain conflicts before casting. SCP reserves the right to NOT CAST a participant if there are more than seven conflicts. NO CONFLICTS ARE ACCEPTED FOR TECH WEEK AND EACH CAST MEMBER MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FULL RUN OF PERFORMANCES. Conflicts must be handed in prior to the last night of callbacks. Any new conflicts will be considered an unexcused absence. New conflicts are not accepted at the parent meeting. Attendance will be taken at each rehearsal. Attendance at all rehearsals for which you are scheduled is mandatory. Cast members missing more than two rehearsals, other than those listed on your conflict sheet or due to illness, may be replaced, regardless of part. Arriving more than 30 minutes late or leaving early from rehearsal is considered an absence. If a cast member needs to be late to rehearsal for a planned event, it must be recorded on the conflict sheet and submitted prior to the last night of callbacks. Work (for those who may have a job) or required school functions are not an excuse to miss rehearsal unless they have been submitted on your conflict sheet prior to casting. During TECH week any cast member with an unexcused absence may be replaced, regardless of attendance record. Each cast member must be available for the full run of technical rehearsals and performances. SCP cannot plan rehearsals without an accurate understanding of who is available at any given rehearsal. Therefore, failure to accurately complete the conflict calendar may result in loss of part or being asked to leave the show. I have read this document and understand the terms. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (Parent signature or cast member who is 18) Date _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Cast member name Aud. #
